But then suddenly in 305 he has a dead brother who died in his arms but no mention of a father who abandoned them. It’s either really inconsistent or a giant round about way of telling this story.
True, we never had mention of Liam until 3×5. However, we had hints of Hook’s abandonment prior to then. In 3×6, Hook told Emma he’d seen the look of despair in the eyes of the Lost Boys, because they’d be left alone. I think Hook recognized that look for the same reason Emma did: he’d once been left by his father. Hook told Baelfire in 2×22 how his father had abandoned him, too. However, Hook had the benefit of having an older brother to look after him, whereas Neal and Emma were truly lost children on their own without any older siblings to guide them.
Well that’s why 305 felt so out of place for me. We had all these hints about Hook’s father abandoning him and then WAM BAM : never before mentioned brother and a young Killian Jones who was pretty emotionally sound.
And how in the name of sanity does Blackbeard fit in???

Because Hook is a series regular and there are still a lot of uncertainties about his backstory. For instance, we have yet to see the story he told Baelfire about his father. We don’t even know which kingdom Killian Jones and his brother came from. We also know next to nothing about his years as a pirate prior to or after meeting Milha.

I’m starting to think Blackbeard is code for Davey Jones, the father of Killian Jones.

If we get a casting call for two young brothers, then I’d say you’re right.

David and Emma are both series regulars/leads and we where told this Season we would learn more about them. There is a lot we don’t know about David too.
January 27, 2014 at 2:59 pm #240990SlurpeezParticipantI’m going to eat crow if there isn’t some Hookriel flashback interaction during this episode. I mean, you got the title of the episode and you don’t address
Yes, Ariel must tie in somehow. Too bad we’re not revisiting Neverland at all in the second part of S3. I would’ve loved to have seen Hook encounter a friendly mermaid named Ariel in a Neverland flashback. And then there is the now sunk ship which was Hookriel. Oh well. There’s always the crack theory that Ariel is Hook’s mother, LOL, but I seriously doubt it.
Maybe Ariel will befriend Hook in the Enchanted Forest or in Storybrooke and teach him what it means to put friends first ahead of love interests. Ariel gave up a chance to be with Eric the first time to save Snow White. Perhaps Hook will learn how to put the happiness of his good friend and son-figure, Neal, first, ahead of a certain love interest.

I completely agree. However, we already know that 3×12 is Emma-centric and I’m thinking 3×13 will be David-centric. Charming is supposed to rescue Rapunzel, so I think that is going to be his backstory.

Perhaps Hook trades the Jolly to Blackbeard for a way to the realm without magic?

I tend to think that Charming rescues Rapunzel during the lost year. I want to know who Charming’s father is, but either looking at S4 (Camelot) or rug sweeping OR he’ll have another centric in S3B

Think Lovely Thoughts- father and son-Rumple and PanNasty Habits- father and son- Rumple and Bae
The Queen Is Dead daughter and mother- Snow and Eva
The Cricket Game- mother and daughter- Cora and Regina
The Crocodile- wife/husband/son – Rumple, Milah, and Bae
Apple Red As Blood- stepmother and stepdaughter, mother and son (heavy on Henry/Emma)
Hat Trick- father and daughter, and father and daughter- Grace and Jefferson, Regina and Henry Sr
What Happened to Frederick- less of a family ep, but w/familial intertwining
True North- kids and father
Price of Gold- Cinderella and Prince, having a childI realize a lot of eps you can dig up some sort of family tie, I mean, this is Once, everyone’s related to each other. But to me it does seem like he focuses on big family events/parental stories.
I do agree though, feels strange we didn’t hear about Liam, and have only heard one sentence about Hook’s father, if that is indeed where they are going this ep.EDit: I mean, they could also have David Goodman just write about something completely different than usual. Who knows. AHHH
Keeper Nealfire's/Bae's scarf, Henry and Neal's bribery ice cream sundae, Baelfire's sword, the coconut map, and more.

Nice.
I think it is for sure a family story/episode. Hook and either his father or father figure, Blackbeard
