I realize a lot of eps you can dig up some sort of family tie, I mean, this is Once, everyone’s related to each other. But to me it does seem like he focuses on big family events/parental stories.
I think that’s true and it’s why I think this is going to be a father-son dynamic for Hook and his dad.

Maybe it parallels Hook and Nealfire in the present. Once long ago Hook did almost give up everything to raise Bae.

I would love more young Bae + Hook scenes. 🙁Keeper Nealfire's/Bae's scarf, Henry and Neal's bribery ice cream sundae, Baelfire's sword, the coconut map, and more.

We do know the ship originally belonged to the King Who Rips Wings of Pegasi And Seeks Deadly Poisons (allegedly! I still think Pan may have duped him…but then again, see treatment of magical creatures) as part of the Royal Navy. So it can’t really have been Daddy Jones’ ship, unless it was taken by the king FROM him?
I don’t know if Baelfire will figure into this, unless we get wind of Dylan Schmidt to be on set.
So here’s another question, how does any of this tie into Wicked?

😮 THIS IS WHY I LOVE THIS FORUMS!!! Our ideas sometimes are just too incredible!!!!!
As for how it ties into Wicked, maybe Black-Beard cheated on Ursula/Calypso with the witch? There were Pirates in Oz, but im not sure the role they played exactly as I never read that book.

This is one of my big questions as well. So far we’ve got: Rapunzel, Blackbeard, and the return of Ariel. I don’t get how these are tying together.
I’m still up in the air about if Blackbeard is Killian and Liam’s actual father OR if he’s the father figure who teaches Pirate Hook how to be a proper pirate. We don’t need to see Dylan for this to parallel to Hook/Bae. We have Nealfire and MAYBE–JUST MAYBE–we can have some honest to heaven CaptainFire interaction without the triangle of doom

It is a derivative series (not written by Baum). “Pirates of Oz” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirates_in_Oz I’d never heard of “Captain Salt” before! So I don’t think there’s an obvious angle to connect Hook or Davey Jones using that particular novel per se, but it could be just a parallel story maybe?

Maybe Henry and Hook take have an adventure at sea and Henry learns how his father may have felt when he was at sea with Hook. Possibly a Hook Henry adventure will flashback to Hook’s adventures on the Jolly Roger. I’d actually love it if Hook, Henry and Neal were all at sea together.
Whether we see mermaids with in present day,n or in flashbacks, it sounds exciting to me.
Or, maybe Hook needs a magical something that can only be found in enchanted seas, and he needs Blackbeard or Ariel to find it for him. I’d love for Henry to have an adventure with Hook. Sounds like a fun trip for a kid like Henry.

Ever since Hook’s obvious disdain for mermaids was mentioned at the end of S2, I’ve hoped there was a story as to why. And then we got the mermaids in the Captain’s quarters. And now we’ve got Ariel in a Hook centric ep. Surely we must be learning something about Hook’s history with mermaids in this ep.
I’m starting to think Blackbeard is code for Davey Jones, the father of Killian Jones.
If we get a casting call for two young brothers, then I’d say you’re right.
Dunno that we’ll get more casting calls for this ep considering they’re about to start shooting it (if they didn’t already start today). I’m on board with Blackbeard being a place holder decoy name. Blackbeard was an actual, real person, and though he’s been used in fiction before, this show sticks with fictional/mythical characters, (Mulan’s the closest they’ve had to an exception to that rule, but even then I dunno if there’s actual proof that Mulan was a real person?), so I’d be surprised if they portrayed Blackbeard on the show. I agree that the character’s actual name is likely Davy Jones.

Yeah, he seems like a good pick if they’re gonna fill in Hook’s daddy issues backstory. Oh IDEA…their father was seduced away by a mermaid. Could explain both Hook’s hatred of mermaids, and also his habit of seducing other men’s wives, all the better if they’re mothers. In a couple of ScrewballNinja’s essays, she’s mentioned characters re-living their greatest moment of trauma through their own actions, and this could be another example of it.

If his name ends up being Davy Jones, then he’s their actual father, because they were named Jones before Killian turned pirate.

Do we dare to dream?

One of the people who was there watching, mentioned that it was a safety boat, which they’re required to have on location whenever they’re filming near water.

Oh that’s an interesting idea.
What if Keck was wrong about the wedding being at the end of the season? Instead of Eriel getting married at the end of the season, they get married NOW on Hook’s ship? A sign that he’s moving on from whatever childhood trauma he suffered at the hands of a mermaid?
