August claims the Author is trapped in the book. How did the Author get stuck in there? How do they (heroes or villains) let him out?
Thinking that the sorcerer trapped the author in the book
Is it possible the Blue Fairy trapped the author? She knows about both the sorcerer and the author. She also is the one who turned August into a child, and August is the one that knows the author is in the book. Looking forward to finding out.
If it’s not Blue and is the sorcerer I have a feeling that she could be involved somehow. I am probably wrong, but it is something to think about.
The question is, why did the Sorcerer trap the Author in the first place? Is the Sorcerer evil, or perhaps the Author is evil and that’s why the Sorcerer trapped him? Going to be very interesting to see how this plays out.

Crack theory: Peter Pan is responsible for the Author being trapped in his book. It would explain a number of things. (1) Blue said the Author had disappeared a long time ago. (2) Peter Pan was around for a long time (3) Peter Pan had a picture of Henry centuries before Henry was born. How? Peter Pan got the picture of Henry from the Author.

Piggy backing on something @Josephine said elsewhere: the Sorcerer is Jafar and he trapped the Author. (no, don’t talk to me about timelines. They’ll do a thing. They do it ALL THE TIME)

I actually really like this idea, because Pan getting the picture of Henry from the Author would totally make sense, and that would explain why they refused to tell us back in Season 3. Someone actually asked Adam a few months ago, and he replied #NoSpoilers, which could be a hint that it would come up again.
OUAT is what a book looks like from the inside, so the author (on the other side of the door on the page) could be in the real world.

How is the Author communicating with August? If he’s inside the book….how does August know?

August himself is a writer. Maybe he picked up on a subplot of the story. Maybe the Author’s story is on the reverse side of the picture of the door. Or just maybe “a little fairy told” him, the same one who told him about Baelfire and the Dark One’s dagger (*cough Blue Fairy cough*).
