Everyone has a lot of great ideas. I guess I tend to sit on the side of it just being a plot hole unfortunately, but before the season finale, I did suspect that the Blue Fairy was up to something.
It all started after “Dreamy” since even if she is a “good” character, I still don’t like her for how she destroyed the love between Dreamy and Nova. I would have thought that if she really were a benevolent creature that she would be happy to see true love happen.
Then, in “The Return”, I thought there might be something more to her quote about being the side of right. I’m sure Regina and Rumpel think that they’re on the side of right too, so I was wondering what was going on there. Plus, she seemed to be working with August in telling him about the dagger.
In “A Land Without Magic” though, there didn’t really seem to be any kind of signs that she was faking not having her old memories at all, but I still don’t like the character. I’m guessing a lot of it right now has to do with the inconsistent writing for her character since there’s not much background to her story yet like with some of the other recurring characters, so I don’t feel sympathetic towards her. Right now I want to know why she couldn’t step into save Regina from her mother, since she helped so many other characters. Or why she was so against Dreamy and Nova happening. Or why it had to be Gepetto and that she couldn’t magic the wardrobe herself or find someone else that could have. Or finally why she didn’t even think about true love’s kiss working or at least suggested trying that first, and then trying the magic bean. Or at least giving Bae and Rumpel a head’s up on how freaking scary it would be when the bean was used.

The love between Rumpelstiltskin and Baelfire was every bit as “true” and pure as Emma and Henry. Rumpel both said and demonstrated that Bae was the only thing that meant anything to him and that he was willing to do anything, even overcome his fears and cowardice, to save his life. Bae showed the same willingness to sacrifice for his father. No, he didn’t like what the Dark Curse was doing to him, the same way you might not like it if your loved one became addicted to heroin. You don’t stop loving the person, although you may hate their behavior and try very hard to get them to go back to the way they were.
The only explanation that makes sense to me is that the Blue Fairy lied. Even if she didn’t think of a parent/child kiss as being true love’s kiss (I probably wouldn’t either, I would think of it more as a romantic love — otherwise it could be anybody, your sister, your grandfather, your dog…..), still she could have told Bae as we have heard a dozen times, “true love’s kiss will break any curse.” Even just letting Bae know that he needed to find his dad a nice lady friend. It may have seemed impossible, but still she could have let him know. If Bae figured that would never happen, he might have asked for the alternative and THEN she could have given him the land-without-magic bean.
I think BF wanted to be rid of the Dark One (whether it was Rumpel, his predecessor, or whoever) because she didn’t like his kind of magic. She figured this was her chance to send him through to another world and destroy his power. Maybe a good goal, but sacrificing Bae in the process.

Like mentioned above, it seems like she’s only interested in getting him out of FTL. I wonder why. And we still don’t know what Cinderella’s fairy godmother did to Rumple to make him hate her so much. I know he hates all fairies, but he specifically asked for her whereabouts from King George in exchange for Charming. There’s more to this fairy story than we’ve seen.
Keeper of Rumplestiltskin's and Neal's spears and war paint and crystal ball.
