Camelot isn’t all about being a knight and sitting at round tables.
On Once Upon a Time this season, our friends will also attend a society event. “I can tell you Episode 2 is a ball at Camelot,” co-creator Edward Kitsis tells TVGuide.com. “Eduardo [Castro], our fantastic costume designer, re-created it. It looks unlike anything we’ve done on the show before. It’s spectacular.”

Kinda sounds like Snow and Charming went to Camelot at one point for a ball with Arthur and Guinevere. Would explain why Charming and Arthur are bro-ing out this season, if they already know each other.

That doesn’t really make sense. The ball is at Camelot, which would mean the past. Robin and Regina have only been together in the present SB.

Well…the gang did find themselves in Camelot during 5×01-5×02. And to give a proper welcoming into the kingdom, King Arthur could have held the Ball.

Well…the gang did find themselves in Camelot during 5×01-5×02. And to give a proper welcoming into the kingdom, King Arthur could have held the Ball.
They drop everything (like looking for Dark Swan Emma) and go to a ball?
And they found themselves in Camelot for 501, back in SB for 502, with Arthur and co. following.

Why in the world would they keep it so secret if the guest of honor is just our cast? They spoiled Rumbelle’s dance pre S4. In other words our friends =/ = guest of honor. I highly doubt that they just drop everything and go attend a ball while they’re supposed to be looking for Emma. It’s much more likely that it’s a flashback.

In 4.01 they are with Emma when they enter Camelot. My thoughts is that they go to Camelot in 4.01 and they spend a considerable amount of time there, similar to Neverland. While they are there Emma becomes the Dark Swan. The people of Camelot end up sucked into Storybrooke in 4.02 and all fairybacks will feature their time in Camelot and showcase how Emma transitioned to the Dark Swan.
But about the ball, I do think it is a flashback. This is the picture WickedRegal mentioned. Lana is with the guy who plays Percival. It would be awesome if it was an OQ dance though:
