If Marvel superheroes can band together, why can’t Disney villains? Once Upon a Time returns from its midseason break with the venomous Mr. Gold (Robert Carlyle) — banished from Storybrooke by his lady love, Belle (Emilie de Ravin) — seeking the companionship of three ladies of ill repute. But this is strictly business!
“Mr. Gold suffers from a bad case of hubris and, as a result, he lost everything,” says executive producer Edward Kitsis. “But he’s not the kind of guy who’ll just accept that. He’s thinking that maybe Regina (Lana Parrilla) isn’t so crazy — that if he can find the Author (of Henry’s storybook), perhaps even villains can have their happy ending. But Gold is going to need other villains to help him out with that.”
Enter the Queens of Darkness: Sleeping Beauty’s Maleficent (Kristin Bauer Van Straten), The Little Mermaid’s Ursula (Merrin Dungey), and 101 Dalmatians’ Cruella De Vil (Victoria Smurfit). Viewers will learn, via flashback, how this trio of terror first came together in Fairy Tale Land. “We reveal that they are far worse than we think they are,” Kitsis says. Cruella, in particular, is aptly named.” And, yes, the show will also explain why Maleficent, killed in dragon form in Season 1, then killed again as a dragon zombie in Season 2, is somehow still alive.
Back in Storybrooke, the townsfolk are in recovery mode after the chaos of the Frozen arc, but the calm won’t last long. Regina, who has reclaimed her job as mayor, and Emma (Jennifer Morrison) will inadvertently release a prominent creature from Disney lore. But, unlike the snow beast from Frozen that terrorized Storybrooke last fall, executive producer Adam Horowitz says, “this monster is not just about wanton destruction. It will lead to a startling revelation about Emma — something that’ll be huge news to the audience.”
That’s not the only hidden intel due to explode. Ginnifer Goodwin’s Snow White saw little action in the months after the actress gave birth. “But now Snow and her Prince Charming (Josh Dallas) are back in a big way,” Horowitz says. “They have a secret — and it’s slowly eating them alive.” – Michael Logan

The best news we have gotten in awhile. First off let me just squeal because I totally called a dark entity being released from the hat 😛 secondly…. I am so interested in what kind of connection it could have to Emma? A startling revelation that will be news to the audience? What could it possibly be????????????

YES!! MAYOR MILLS IS BACK IN OFFICE!!!
And this monster…if it’s really Chernabog, and he’s only a one episode guy….I’m going to have a slight issue with that. Someone as big and dark as Chernabog…and they use him for one episode!!!
I’m hoping this is Dragon Maleficent…but whatever it is…Regina and Emma are really fighting it hard with everything they’ve got!

Dark creature thingy…despite being from Disney (rather it wasn’t)….YYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!
I imagine that it is Emma’s ultimate nemesis.
Or maybe it was created as a natural by-product of Emma’s ”creation” or existence, the natural by product of Emma’s magic at the time of her conception or birth. Without dark, there cannot be light, light comes out of the darkness etc. Or perhaps Emma or her magic is the by-product that came from this creature? What I am trying to say is that the two could be two sides of the same coin.
I wonder if this creature is connected to Lilith.
And I also wonder if this creature is known to Snow and Charming, especially if it involves Emma’s creation as the savior. ( I don’t think it is their shared hear that is the secret, as it already known to Regina).
(I agree that it is Chernabog @MatthewPaul)
(@TheWatcher looks like your hat theory is proving correct, so well done!)

Well, Emma is a “savior” after all, which is a concept that has ties to Christianity. The opposite of God is Satan, and Chernabog is heavily modeled off of Satan. Deems Taylor has referred to Chernabog as “Satan” during the introduction to the Night on Bald Mountain segment in Fantasia. Walt Disney himself is even on record for referring to Chernabog as “Satan himself.” So Chernabog being the “anti-savior” actually wouldn’t be too far off. It feels weird that I’m actually theorizing about Chernabog seriously being on this show now.
February 11, 2015 at 6:34 am #295695TheWatcherParticipantYou guys are basically talking about my theory that I was referring fo within the chat T_T I was thinking that basically Lily is the anti-Emma,the anti-savior, the black to Emma’s white, the dark to Emma’s light. Thats why the reveal is supposed to be shocking. I think its a nice idea but I dislike the fact that I am able to guess it so quickly with little to no evidence. Of course its just a theory but its kind of predictable. Lily being the offspring of Chernabog or just connected to him is cool. Also, I love the fact that my auto correct recognizes Chernabog 😛

I think you’re right. But I do wonder, once again, what the overall plan for the show is if they are planning to have the ultimate savior good vs devil bad battle going on in 4B. Unless Chernabog–if that is what this is–get shelved until 5. It just strikes me as odd that they would introduce something so *very* evil as Satan-Stand-In-Chernabog for only one episode before returning to Mal, Cruella, and Ursula…three villains who will pale beside the Lord of All Evil…

In Buffy, they introduced The First in an episode of one of the earlier seasons then had The First be the big bad of the final season.
