I believe Rumple is alive and still powerful. They showed us the scene where Rumple was in his shop, frantic, trying to get that cuff off. They implied that he was so frantic that he even thought of using that sword (who’s sword?) to cut off his own hand. But when they showed him in the next scene, he was strong, determined, confident and unafraid. I think that in the moments between those two scenes, though he had no magic, he used one of the many enchanted objects in his shop to alter his fate. I think the kiss he gave his father as they left our world was huge. I believe that kiss of death altered his redemption and his fate. that was a HUGE scene to me, and I see it as a life changing moment for Rumple. Whether he loses his Dark Ones powers or becomes even darker, I have no idea. But I’m looking forward to a flashback scene of what happened in those brief moments where Rumple transformed himself from frantic to deadly.

I also agree there was a weird disparity between those two scenes. Maybe he wanted people to think he was gone so they could start over without him.
I don't cause commotions, I am one.

Was there something besides the sword he might have been looking at, something that could have given him a plan? Or something special about the sword itself?

To me it was a direct parallel to the Manhattan flashback where Rumple injures his leg in order to leave the war to be a father to Bae. Once again he injures himself in order to protect Bae and Belle.

But we saw that the cuff was still on him, wasn’t it? Its possible tho. Unless you don’t need magic to summon your shadow.

Did we see it??? I honestly can’t remember. If we did then disregard everything I say.

So I’m not sure how he was able to summon his shadow without magic, or maybe he did cut his hand off and then fix it but decided that for once he was going to fight without magic. I kind of like the idea of him having magic but CHOOSING not to use it rather than him not using it simply because he couldn’t. Shows so much more growth.

I totally forgot he said that. Alright, then Rumple almost chops off his hand in order to be magical again, but realizes that THIS would be the coward’s way out, so he goes outside to summon his shadow knowing full well that this is going to be his death.
And now I’m going to go cry again cause I haven’t in awhile.

Behind the scenes, just before Rumple chops off his hand, the Tardis appears in this shop. The Doctor steps out (David Tennant, the 10th Doctor) and tells Rumple to go ahead and chop off his hand because a new one will regenerate in it’s place. They then use the hand to regenerate a second Rumple. This second Rumple is the one who steps outside to accept his fate. S3x12 will open with the original Rumple being dropped by the Tardis in the Enchanted Forest.
Ah, The 10th Doctor and Rumple. Now there’s trouble if ever there were! Be still my beating heart! <3 🙂
