Alright, then Rumple almost chops off his hand in order to be magical again, but realizes that THIS would be the coward’s way out, so he goes outside to summon his shadow knowing full well that this is going to be his death.
Yep, that was my reading of it. He’d have had to cut off the same hand as the one he took from Hook, too, so he probably got a bit flash-backy inside his head, then decided, “No, I’m gonna do things differently this time,” then he went to meet his fate and give his life without his magic, because it was the brave thing to do.
Ah, The 10th Doctor and Rumple. Now there’s trouble if ever there were! Be still my beating heart! <3 :)[/quote]
I would be overjoyed if they were able to create a role for Tennant on this show, and have him banter with Rumple. It would be fabulous!I think the kiss he gave his father as they left our world was huge. I believe that kiss of death altered his redemption and his fate.
I think that's highly likely, which is why I'd kill to know if it was scripted or just improvised by Bobby, because I could believe it was an improvisation, but if it was actually in the script, then it's more likely that it means something. Maybe the fact that he showed compassion and love in that dying moment when he should have just been consumed by hate, transformed the nature of the magic in him, or something? The bright light that shone out from the dagger suggests good power. Curiously, it was actually very similar to the flash of light when the Black Fairy’s wand was used. Dunno if there’s something in that or not.

The color and intensity of the light suggests that it was very “you have been redeemed!”

And in the Disney Beauty and the Beast, when the Beast transformed he was engulfed in a light like that. He definitely broke his curse/was redeemed.

Yes! And now all that’s left is for Belle and Rumple to kiss and FIREWORKS.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"December 19, 2013 at 11:25 am #232304CindersParticipantLet’s assume that Rumple is NOT dead. In an earlier episode, Regina visits Rumple in his dungeon prison cell as the curse is approaching. Rumple wants Regina to tell him how it felt to kill her father. He also tells her that because she killed her father, she now has a hole in her heart. When Regina taunts him about being imprisoned, We hear Rumple say, as we’ve heard him say before, “I’m exactly where I want to be”. I thought it was ironic that as Regina killed her father to enact the first curse, Rumple kills his father as the new curse is approaching. Does he now have a hole in his heart as she did? And in that dungeon prison cell, why does Rumple say, as we’ve heard before, “why, I’m exactly where I want to be”. Why did they emphasize that to us again? As the curse brings everyone back to Enchanted Forest is that where we will later see Rumple appear? He knew the curse would come and he would be a man of wealth in Storybrook. He knew the curse would be broken. Did he also know a new curse would send them all back to Enchanted Forest? And is he now exactly where he wants to be?

Interesting question but I think the situations are different enough that Rumple won’t have a hole.
Regina killed her father in order to have her revenge; it was done for non heroic reasons. So the price of magic was a hole in her heart.
Rumple killed his father in order to save his son and Belle and so that Regina could then cast her counter curse and prevent the heroes from being reduced to memory-less drones again. The price of magic for killing his father is his “death” and I imagine his DO curse breaking.

I’ve seen some people say that Rumple will be in his jail cell when the new Curse brings everyone back but everyone will be unaware of this having just watched him die. It’s not my headcanon personally, but I could see it working out that way.
Did he also know a new curse would send them all back to Enchanted Forest? And is he now exactly where he wants to be?
I don’t think so. Rumple can only see bits of the future. If he had seen the whole new curse and what led up to it, PP and Henry and the whole NL arc, then he wouldn’t have felt the need to go and try to kill Henry in 222. He could have just let GOAT and PP do what they were going to do. I don’t think he saw the new Curse coming. I also don’t think Rumple knew that whatever did happen to him when he killed MalcolmPan was going to happen. I think he fully expected to die die.
