Tonight we had to bid farewell to one of the greatest characters Once Upon a Time ever created, and it was a beautiful, if kind of heartbreaking sendoff. No matter how long and happy a life she had, it was still painful to watch Belle (Emilie de Ravin) die, leaving the immortal Rumple (Robert Carlyle) to go on alone, desperate to be rid of his curse so he can one day join her in the afterlife.
Creators and executive producers Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis talked to TV Guide about the heavy decision to show Belle’s death, the possibility she’ll be back and to own up for all the tears you’re surely crying.

[adrotate group="5"]December 6, 2017 at 2:27 am #344894ry4christParticipantI know others have suggested Henry is the Guardian Rumple is looking for, but I wanted to state why I think this is the case, partly in relation to this article.
– In 7×04, Rumple says he will go to the moment where he will meet the Guardian. He does bump into Alice, but Henry also zooms by on his motorcycle. There has to be a reason they showed Henry.
– I was thinking back to the Seer’s prophecy that Rumple would one day be reunited with Bae by a young boy who would be his undoing. This may have been in reference to Henry leading Rumple to Bae in 2×14 and Rumple’s death in 3×11. Since that was never explicitly stated (making it always seems like a dropped plot thread to me), perhaps Henry is the Guardian leading Rumple to Bae (and Belle) in the afterlife when he dies, with that being his final “undoing.” I think it’s also possible 7×22 will be titled “The Guardian.”
– In the article linked above, A&E state, “The Guardian is the person who can hold the knife and keep the power without letting it consume them and will allow [Rumple] to be free of being the Dark One.” I think this could very well be describing Henry because A) Henry has been described as having the “Heart of the Truest Believer,” B) It would tie Rumple’s arc this season into the rest of the characters, especially if Henry’s life is in danger as 7×06 leads us to believe and Rumple has this stake in Henry not only as his grandson but as the one who can free him, and C) We have already seen Henry make a wise choice in the show regarding having much power when he broke the author’s quill in 4×22 saying, “No one should have that much power.” Henry’s role as an author has already been highlighted in this season – I would not be surprised if that becomes important again.
Thoughts?

Also, Alice is coming off as an insane character and i am leaning more towaard her being like a villain then not. At least she is a villain adjacent with Hook being her father and the possible connection to Drizella. Also, the way that Tremaine has reacted both times she saw her has been a lot and that should mean something.

Interesting insight. I hadn’t thought of the possibility of Alice being a villain. If her craziness extends to the NEF, I can definitely see her having made some questionable choices.
December 7, 2017 at 6:20 am #344912hjbauParticipantAlice seemed pretty crazy to me when she was running around with Ella and Henry in the new Wonderland. I am not sure if they are just playing her a little bit as the mad hatter because she is Alice in Wonderland or if they are actually trying to show that she is a little crazy, maybe from being stuck in the tower. I wonder if she knows her mother is Gothel. She is definitely villain adjacent being the daughter of two villains and possibly having a villain girlfriend.

It’s not just Alice and Henry who are there. I think this is one of those Oracle of Delphi prophecies:
– In the article linked above, A&E state, “The Guardian is the person who can hold the knife and keep the power without letting it consume them and will allow [Rumple] to be free of being the Dark One.”
Rumpel has renounced the power of the Dark One, so for all practical purposes he’s already doing the job of the Guardian, but he still wants to pass the burden to someone else, even though he knows (re: his conversation with Gideon earlier this season) how dangerous that would be for the recipient. I think Rumpel will ultimately decide that the person with the most experience at resisting the Dark One power should be the one to carry the burden. The moment Rumpel decides to keep the dagger (this time for the right reason), the dagger will disappear in a puff of smoke.
