All I know is that Eddy said he’s dead
Actually this fits my headcanon with how I think the season of Rumbelle plays out.
He’s in Hades and Belle has to rescue him in a gender swapped tale of Eurydice and Orpheus. (and succeeds this time)
I would love this.
I do wonder about another sacrifice to bring him back, though, somehow. That say a symmetry to appeals to the fairy-tale trope fan in me. If it’s Belle, or Bae/Neale, though … no, that’s just too much, that’s just TOO painful. 🙁
So who else might be willing to do that for Rumple? Or .. Belle or Neale, the ones who care about him the most?
Or what if they need Rumple’s powers to stop/defeat the witch and that’s why the person makes the sacrifice? (Which is then … ugh … potentially wasted if he’s lost his powers?)

-- Dylan ThomasJanuary 21, 2014 at 9:29 pm #239365RumplesGirlKeymasterI’m love Greek mythology, but I’m not familiar with this story; can you fill me in?
Oh sure. Briefly: Orpheus and Eurydice are in love and once day Eurydice is bitten by a viper and dies. Orpheus decides to win her back and traveling down to the underworld–Hades–and and played his lyre for Hades and Persephone (btw: B and the B is based on Hades and Persephone). The music was so sad that Hades made Orpheus a deal: to allow Eurydice to return with him to earth on one condition: he should walk in front of her and not look back until they both had reached the upper world. He set off with Eurydice following, and, in his anxiety, as soon as he reached the upper world, he turned to look at her, forgetting that both needed to be in the upper world, and she vanished for the second time, but now forever.
However a successful tale would have Belle bring Rumple back without failing.
It wouldn’t be music, but it might be something else Belle is good at–storytelling. If she can tell Hades the right story, he would release Rumple.
In other words, Belle wouldn’t die.

Oh wow, how tragic…….but then aren’t most myths? Thank you!
Would Adam and Eddy even be familiar with this story? I admit that it sounds like (even if it’s not a redo of Eurdyice/Orpheus) that Gold does go to some “other world” (and I don’t mean “land”) and the Underworld sounds as good as any (though of course, he should be in the Elysian Fields).
Belle would have to make a deal with someone…….Hades? I just can’t see Adam/Eddy writing such a complicated, deep storyline
I’ve calmed down, but goodness I’m still worried…………and I hate Eddy still calling him the DO after his sacrifice. Then again, Eddy thinks he’s a real villain, a bad man, so I’m not surprised
January 21, 2014 at 10:03 pm #239368lisasParticipantI have no interest in speculating on this anymore. It’s exhausting and every person is going to believe something different based on how they interpret the show.
But this is my question: how many of you will stop watching if it is your favorite character/second favorite character? (don’t cheat and come back with “but RG!! It won’t be my favorite character!!”)
Everyone knows my favorite character is officially out of the running but my second favorite character is getting a lot of “it’s him” and I find myself conflicted. I always imagine I was here for the long haul. And I probably will be. But I will be profoundly disappointed.
In case anyone missed this.
I really want to know. I want to try and gauge how badly this is going to affect ratings
Well RG I don’t know about anyone else but I can say with absolute certainty that if Adam & Eddy kill Neal after they actively sought MRJ out specifically for this role of Neal/BaelFire after planning this story as the story they wanted to tell by bringing him in the second season and making him a series regular and giving him the poster and slogan to Believe In Second Chances which I believe is with Emma & Henry and Rumple only to abandon the story they were planning to tell by killing him off this season in favor of Hook and his good looks & leather then putting him in the mix as someone be with Emma & Henry as opposed to Henry’s own father and the love her life just to appease fans and the ABC Promo Department & ABC Excecutives for ratings I will be done with Once. Because I refuse to buy into what notion that it is story driven from Adam
Sorry RG that is just how I feel about it

Yep. I saw this Gif set floating around on Tumblr. Adam and Eddy aren’t going to touch a hair on Belle’s beautiful head because Rumple wouldn’t stand for it.

Oh, I’m sure Adam and Eddy are familiar with Greek mythology. We’ve already heard mention of chimeras, Medussa, Midas, and Jason’s golden fleece. I think that Gold may only be mostly dead, just as Philip was only mostly dead in 2×1. Plus, Rumple was immortal when he “died” so instead of a final death, it was just the undoing of his dark one-ness.
This is where I think Aurora and Philip come into play. Techincally, Philip’s soul was removed from his body. Cora told Aurora that when a wraith consumes a soul, it travels to “another realm.” In 3×1, Aurora alluded to the fact that she had learned to travel other worlds while asleep, which is a consequence of being put under the sleeping curse. It’s possible that Aurora will advise Belle how to save Rumple. And we know that Aurora was able to save Philip and both survived, since we saw them both in 3×1.

I like that.
January 21, 2014 at 10:31 pm #239379PheeParticipantThey should film a death scene now for every character. The leaks would have a hard time coping with that, and it would give the actors….motivation.
Wouldn’t surprise me at all if they did film multiple deaths. They know how big spoilers get leaked, and like RG said, another show they’ve worked on before has used that tactic.
But this is my question: how many of you will stop watching if it is your favorite character/second favorite character? (don’t cheat and come back with “but RG!! It won’t be my favorite character!!”)
Well Rumple’s my ultimate fave, and I’m certain he’ll be back somehow. Neal’s tied for second fave with Emma these days. There’s no way they’re killing Emma, and I strongly doubt it’ll be Neal, (they’ve already shown how everyone would mourn him, so if they actually killed him, there’d be a diminished emotional punch because we’ve seen everyone deal with it before. The storyline would be redundant, and is something like that a thing they’d leak this far in advance to drum up hype for it? Doubtful IMO), but if it WAS Neal, I’d be pissed, but would keep watching to see how they did it. I also love me some Rumbelle, and am starting to like Regina more, and am looking forward to how OQ unfolds, and can’t wait to see what they do with all the Oz stuff, and they’ve said Ariel’s gonna be back at some point and I need to see more Ariel. So even if there’s one storyline that ticks me off, I’ve still got so much more to watch for. I’ll be with this show until the end.
I’m going to throw my hat in the ring, however, and say that I think it will be Hook. Because I could see it being the most effective story for a few reasons. And to maximize the number of characters it affects, I think he’ll doing it saving … not Emma, but BAE.
That would make the most storytelling use of his death. It’s a gut punch for Emma, especially if he does for her sake. It’s a shocker for Bae/Neale, because I believe Hook’s been looking at him as a son of sorts for years because of Milha. (But the reverse was not true for Bae.) And for Rumble: What if one of his greatest enemies just made the ultimate sacrifice to save HIS son.
It would also make a nice mirror scene to the one in 222 where he handed Bae over to Pan. Back then he gave the kid over to Pan, who he knows as being a “demon”. Hook knew deep down that it was the wrong thing to do, but he did it anyway because the darkness in his heart won out. What better way to balance that scene than with another one where he gives himself up as a means to protect and save Bae instead. It would be proof of real character growth for him, taking responsibility for his previous actions by making a personal sacrifice. We’ve seen that from Rumple and Regina now, but not from Hook yet.
January 21, 2014 at 10:31 pm #239380RumplesGirlKeymasterThanks to everyone who played along.
For the most part it seems like people wouldn’t stop watching ONCE if their favorite/second favorite character died, but there would be a lot of disappointment. Obviously can’t speak for the normals out there who don’t do what we do but I hope the trend is the same.

I remember they did that for Sex and the City. They filmed multiple endings and the fans were left wondering, what’s the real one?
