A…Stand Up Comedian? Playing an iconic character like Aladdin…..hmmmm….hmmmmmm….hmmmmmmmm. I don’t know how I feel about this, I mean….hmmm….maybe the voice of Iago would suit him better. I just really can’t see him as Aladdin.
He’s a stand up comedian? Never heard of the guy before so I don’t know but even if he is a comedian that doesn’t mean he can’t act. Robin Williams was a comedian and he was a damn good actor.
I think they will do Aladdin because it’s one of the big 5: Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Snow White and the seven dwarves, Cinderella.
Once must not touch the genie though. They can have different genies but they can’t have THE genie. The genie is sacred.

Completely agree. He can be mentioned in passing but any attempt to recreate THE Genie in OUAT is not a good idea.

He also has quite an extensive Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumail_Nanjiani
So just because Adam follows him does not necessarily mean that Kumail has joined the cast. Adam follows a lot of people who aren’t associated with OUAT, so he may just be following Kumail as a fan of his work. I guess I won’t rule him out entirely, but I’m remaining cautious for the time being.
July 8, 2016 at 6:50 pm #325342TheWatcherParticipantIdk how i’d feel about that…. Recreating Aladdin without the genie? Eh…but yeah, I also don’t think the OUAT writers and possibly any other actor would be able to do the character justice. At the very least, i’d hope for Jafar taking the place of the genie in the story. That would be a twist I could deal with and we all speculated it before.
Who knows, if this guys a comedian, maybe he is the genie.

Keeper Of Tamara's Taser , Jafar's Staff, Kitsis’s Glasses , Ariel’s Tail, Dopey's Hat , Peter Pan’s Shadow, Outfit, & Pied Cloak,Red Queen's Castle, White Rabbit's Power To World Hop, Zelena's BroomStick, & ALL MAGICJuly 13, 2016 at 1:03 am #325463PheeParticipantHe’s not famous enough, IMO, for Adam to just follow without there being an OUAT connection…so yeah I think @kranen is right.
Maybe Adam is a Silicon valley fan. That show is great and he is on it.
First of all…if anyone hasn’t seen Silicon Valley you NEED to check it out because OMG that show is hilarious and brilliant and just do yourself a favour and watch it, (unless excessive expletives offend you, because there’s a lot of that)!
Secondly…knowing this guy from his character in Silicon Valley, I could NOT imagine him playing a role like Aladdin, so please no.

With that in mind, I just don’t think you can leave out the genie if you bring in Aladdin. I would expect they would at least try and get someone to do the genie justice, and since they just did it with Hades (granted these are two very different characters), I think they have no reason to think they won’t have similar success with casting the genie.
July 13, 2016 at 12:59 pm #325475rainbow2ParticipantThe thing is, even if they bring Aladdin, i think is mostly like Hercules and meg, a one epi thing, so no need to have genie or even jafar into that story, and even if they bring Genie at least, will be probably like Zeus a 2 minutes scene thing. I really dont see them having a long story with aladdin, especially since they say with Untold stories they have so many stories that they can work and especially have way more freedom with them, than with Aladdin, bc that is a story most people know and “belongs” to disney, the others, people may not have such knowledge, which makes them the perfect candidates to have more twists and changes, so yeah, even in the case of a Jasmine and Aladdin story, i would say one epi.

Good point, and there technically has already been a live action version of the genie in Aladdin on broadway, and he was done phenomenally well. Both amazing and different from the robin Williams genie, but still fantastic. I guess it just takes the right casting and right writing.

My trusty gut is telling me Once Upon a Time might actually/finally be adding Aladdin and Jasmine in Season 6, versus Sinbad and Scheherezade, as we previously speculated.

Still not confirmed, but looking very likely.
