I’ve been thinking the final scene would be of Emma meeting the Sorcerer. Face to face.

You have to stab the current Dark One. Though according to how Emma says “the dagger needs to be attached to someone”, it seems the dagger is currently nameless in that scene. Which means either Rumple already died without being stabbed, or he was freed from the curse. Anyway, here’s the video and two of the detailed set reports. Nothing about Emma stabbing herself:
Except there’s no name on the dagger which changes the rules. There is no previous Dark One to stab so a new Dark One has to be created in a new way, ie: not by stabbing the previous one. Yes, I’ve seen the video but it feels weird that there would be no stabbing. We’re in uncharted territory as far as the Curse goes.

Hmm, maybe.

Maybe we going to see the ending of the Dark One’s curse finally. Rumple was going to die in season two and Cora said if Rumple dies before the DO power is passed on to someone, that magic just evaporates.
Cora: More than injured, I’d say. He’s dying. And when his name disappears, all of that power of his will just… Boil off into the air and… Then there will be no new Dark One.
Which I seriously hope Adam and Eddy stick to that.

Why does Emma have to stab herself to become the new Dark One? That’s still nothing that’s been established as an in-show rule before. The stabbing only seemed necessary before because normally you have to kill the current Dark One first, but in this case there appears to be no current Dark One to stab. Perhaps Emma raising the dagger in the air for some sort of spell is all she has to do in this situation.

And that seems to be contradicted in this last episode with Rumple saying that while he can die, the DO will live on (as if wearing Rumple like a meat suit but no one else is “home”)

There are plenty of things that aren’t established as in-show rule and then they go and do it… like splitting a heart and sharing it. I’m just saying that we’re off the map when it comes to Dark One rules because Rumple, for whatever reason, appears to no longer be the DO. If Emma is doing a spell, okay, but the show has established that there needs to be a stabbing for a new DO. Now, yes, it’s the previous DO but if that’s off the table, the stabbing could still work if the DO’s power goes back to the dagger itself.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 6, 2015 at 6:04 pm #304047obisgirlParticipantOh God, I really hate this because I really don’t want A&E to go back on that statement Cora made.
Thus far, there’s only two ways the Dark One curse can be broken:
TLK — not likely to happen anytime soon.
Or Rumple dies before passing that magic onto someone else.
May 6, 2015 at 6:08 pm #304048RumplesGirlKeymasterOr Rumple dies before passing that magic onto someone else.
That seems the more likely scenario right now which begs the question of then what happened to the DO power. Is it just floating around in the air and Emma is…summoning it??? (again, though, how does she become the new DO if that’s the case)? And how did the DO power gets from an AU EF reality to our real SB reality if Rumple died in the AU version (which I’m starting to suspect….)
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 6, 2015 at 6:08 pm #304049TheWatcherParticipantWe know for a fact that there will be a nee dark one based on what that person said. I forget their name. Kat-something. But according to them whoever becomes the new dark one will do so without killing Rumpel. So use that information as you all will. The way I figure it (based on Cora said abd what we know has been filmed with the dagger): Rumpel dies. The magic of the dagger evaporates into the air and starts sucking away all The light and hope (which was apparently said by Emma or Regina) so Emma takes the dagger, holds it up. And sucks in all the darkness into the dagger and therefore into herself. She becomes the new dark one. Calling it now.

Again, I don’t understand why you would assume a stabbing would be necessary in this unique situation. The stabbing is specifically to kill the previous Dark One. If there’s no previous Dark One to stab, then why is stabbing of any kind still required? Stabbing yourself to become the Dark One seems like an utterly pointless rule, if it were to become a thing. Why would someone becoming the Dark One have to inflict self harm?
