Do you have anything on Once Upon a Time that isn’t related to one ‘ship or another? –Lauren
Wrap your magic bean around this one: For Episode 14, the show is casting the possibly recurring role of a teenage African-American female who comes across as skittish and timid, having had her naturally curious and determined spirit tempered by years of crippling fear. That said, when put to the test, this lass can reach within and summon the strength to be a hero. Ready, set, speculate!

Yes, very possibly! Oz is going to come into play soon I believe.

    TIANA

    Maybe.

    Anyone else thinking Dorothy?

No, isn’t there other stories about a little girl who becomes a Hero?

    Top three choices:

    1) Dorothy (I’d love to see them do a race swap)

    2) Tiana

    3) Young!Tamara (except she was no hero so NO)

    2) Tiana

Money’s on Dorothy. Since when is Tiana considered timid and skittish?

Exactly. Dorothy was timid and scared (at least in the classic movie) and sort of nervous. (Think pig sty scene, running away from home, there is even a scene where she’s crying and talking about how frigthened she is, I think)

However A and E are known for rewriting characters so Tiana might still be a contender

If it was for Dorothy, why would they specify that the actress had to be black? I think Tiana may be the more likely one since she was Disney’s first black princess and if she suddenly became white, eyebrows would be raised. I’m guessing whoever this character is may become someone for Henry to hang with unless they go for a Lost boy style teenager.

Perhaps she is just an original character for Henry to hang with and she has to be black in order to add racial diversity to the show. I think the trope is called Token Black Team mate.

If it was for Dorothy, why would they specify that the actress had to be black?

Because they’re switching up race. They did it with Lancelot. And if there is a connection between Tamara’s Grandmother and the Oz story, then having the actress would be African-American makes sense.

Token Black character, yes. But I’m not sure their concern is Henry’s circle of friends.
