What I’m concerned with is, would they really do The Wiz? Is that Disney owned? Is it possible? I would love for this woman to be Dorothy but is it possible? They couldn’t get their hands on Rufio

Well The Wiz was a musical first so I don’t know how that works rights wise, but I would that you have to pay the writers/producers instead of a company. The 1978 movie a Motwon and Universal Studios Production. But ALL of that was based on the books by Baum, which are easier to gets rights to than say Peter Pan.

And it wouldn’t be them doing the Wiz, it would be them doing the Wizard of Oz by Frank L. Baum and then making a reference to the Wiz with an African-American heroine. So the royalites would be lower.

That makes sense RG. Idk if the rights to just do the Wizars Of Oz is free or public domain (you get what I mean) but if so, they could just do the Oz story… But with an African American cast. Thats really interesting. My only request is that Oz is NOT like WL, as in with CGI backgrounds. It has to be like Neverland. A real place fixed up to look all Ozian.

The original Wizard of Oz book is actually public domain, so I don’t believe Disney has to pay a thing to use the source material itself.  And sadly, I think Oz using a heavy dosage of CGI is likely. When you have a yellow brick road, the Emerald City, and the Witch’s castle, you know they will use visual effects. So, I’m expecting something similar to Oz The Great and Powerful, but with a lower budget.

Also, The Wiz isn’t the only film version of The Wizard of Oz to feature an African American portrayal of Dorothy. The Muppet Wizard of Oz, also produced by Disney, also features an African American Dorothy, played by Ashanti.

Interesting, because I’ll bet when Kitswitz were coming up with their own Oz ideas, they checked out what other people have done before, and with that having been a Disney production, perhaps they might have decided to borrow the idea. Hmmmm.

I figured by this point it was but good to know!

From the sounds of it, rights aren’t an issue if they did go this route. I’m liking Dorothy more and more.

I think OZ will be in next Season, this girl will play one of the witches in the new episodes 3.14, helping to get the Prince soul back or who knows what if is this the future Godmother that Gold killed latter.

I think OZ will be in next Season, this girl will play one of the witches in the new episodes 3.13, helping to get the Prince soul back.

The new girl isn’t until 314. The episode “Witch Hunt” is 313.

While I do think that might be the story of Philip’s soul and the Wraith, the casting call for the 14 yr old isn’t until 314.
