    I agree that’s possible. But it’s kind of a weak explanation, especially on a TV show were you’re trying to uncover motives and psychological insights into characters. It might be racisim, but was there something that led Hook to feel that way?

    True. Hook is a pirate afterall, I’m sure he’s encountered many a mermaid before and given legends about mermaids luring sailors to their death,I doubt they are best friends. There is also the case of Ariel’s mother having been killed by pirates in The Little Mermaid 3. So… Yeah.. That may be some interesting interaction if Hooks ship was the one that killed Queen Athena or if Ariel faults him anyway just for being a pirate.

    Idea: Perhaps mermaids aren’t that bad. They just hate pirates and sailors. Remember Alice said she and Cyrus swam with mermaids and battled pirates..

    That idea fits- animosity on both sides- one in general for a beloved queen’s death, the other as the result of said death, meaning “all sailors & pirates” in general being tared with the same ‘killers/villains’ brush. I like it.
