Sorry but I think HOOK IS WAY TOO OLD FOR EMMA… for that matter so is NEAL!
I agree!!!
Age is but a number. I have no problem with age differences, but then my favorite ship is Rumbelle. 😉
Keeper of Rumplestiltskin's and Neal's spears and war paint and crystal ball.
I personally think there’s something romantic about it if you and your true love were born centuries apart, but ended up in the right place and the right time to end up together anyway.
Let me ask you a question Nonnie–do you think the kids in Storybrooke are “too old” for Henry to ever date when they are grown up more? Technically they’re all 28 + apparent age older than him right?
What if it was just like under the curse and they were frozen in the same way?
Until I know differently, that’s what I think because they didn’t age biologically, other than Neal and he didn’t age 100’s, only about 10 years. So I think of both him and Hook as only about 5 physical years older.
I don’t think that’s a shocking age gap.
“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?” -- Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass
But it’s not like Rumple, Hook and Bae ARE those ages. Rumple is not 300 years old, when the Dark One’s Curse leaves him he won’t age several hundred years. They were all just frozen at their respective ages for a long time. Rumple has been around for 300 years but he’s still about 45-50yrs old. The same with Hook and Neal. Hook is only about 30-ish but he was frozen for a long time. Neal is about 36-ish but he was frozen at the age of 14 for a long time.
Also, not to put too fine a point on this, but these are fairy tales where stuff like this is just part of the genre. In the real world, huge age differences are frowned upon but in fairy tales where often times people are cursed to not age this is just part of the trope.
You have to take everything with a grain of salt when it comes to fantasy, sci-fi, and fairytales. Such is the suspension of disbelief when magic is the explanation for long life. Plus, when many of these original fairy tales were written, age differences were much more acceptable amongst readers, since women as young as 14 often married men twice their age. With respect to Once, I’m not overly concerned about the age differences, since as has already been pointed out, the men in question (Rumple, Hook, and Neal) are frozen at the age they were when their biological aging came to a halt. The same is true of Snow White and David who are supposed to be an entire generation older than Emma but are actually her peers due to time being frozen during the curse.
