KeymasterHaven’t posted in forever but I’ve been thinking a lot about the promo. A thought struck me the other day, and Phee’s screenshots made it seem more likely so I thought I’d add a theory! It looks like Emma could be holding a picture frame, and in Manhattan, Henry did seem rather adament about getting his camera to take pictures… Could this be a picture of Neal and Henry, or Neal, Emma and Henry? Or of course, Neal, Rumple and Henry?
that’s a cool theory!
I like the pic idea in general:
The pic of Emma and MM from S1 is a good guess too. Emma would have no memory of meeting MM but here’s a photo of them.
who knows what other photos might be around? Photo of the whole gang at Granny’s after 209?

ParticipantBut as we all know Emma *needs* proof. I like the idea of a cross section of the map, but all that would tell Emma is that some guy lived here that had a dream catcher and a map of Tallahassee. We as the audience recognize all these symbols, and want her to take a leap of faith, but her as a character wouldn’t believe anything, much less run after Hook and drink a potion, especially if they are going to speed up the process to one episode. It took an entire season for Emma to believe in the curse and her past last time, it’s gotta be something big for her to do it so quickly this time, at least to realize that something is wrong/missing. Of course, realistically there was probably no time for Henry to take all of his pictures, get it developed (although that only takes an hour these days) and Neal put it in a frame before Hook showed up in Manhattan, but let’s be honest, here… would anyone be surprised if that “magically” (for lack of a better word) appeared in Neal’s apartment this season? It’s not like all of the details have been super thought out and well written at this point.

ParticipantI think the “not possible” thing would suggest something that might help convince her to believe something about magic potions as opposed to thinking “Danger danger, I live in NY and its just another drug-drunk-addled stranger!” So an ordinary object anyone could have or even that Neal might have had left over from their thief days wouldn’t I think do it.
I also suggested the idea that Neal had a photo that he printed out that day in Manhattan from the camera. These days you can get 1 hour photos or just print yourself one on a computer. If there was at least one night between the scene where Neal encounters Rumple and out for pizza and museum (looked like Emma changed clothes slightly), he definitely might have been so proud-papa that he took a quick snap with Henry on the fireescape (selfie!) and printed it and stuck it in a frame he already had. Maybe a frame that had the Tallahassee map in it too, I do like that idea, but it also feels a bit of a plot breadloaf as they didn’t show us before that day other than mentioning the camera. It would have been better to show us Neal picking up photos as they walk down the street or something but then again, Rumple’s doll just dropped out of nowhere too. We found out later on its huge significance.
It is possible that Hook’s words alone convince Emma to take the potion and the scene of her holding something is just Regina’s place. Only thing I could be more sure of is that it is not stylistically Emma’s or MM’s Lofts as lofts don’t tend to have crown molding details as they’re more modern style. Neal’s apartment was a bit more detailed as Phee showed (though pretty grungy seeming still!) so it could be Regina’s mansion as well or some totally other different location. The apartment of Gorham’s character? A hotel room that Hook has rented? Agent Coulson’s office? Ok probably not that, but we have no idea of the context so all speculations within very limited bounds are free game.
The Dream Catcher scene is definitely not the one from before last season as there’s a hole in the dreamcatcher now, lower left corner–but it does otherwise look the same. What it means, and which dreamcatcher this is–could be the one in Gold’s shop that Emma used on Pongo for doggie-eyewitness, who knows. I do think its unlikely Emma takes her red peacoat to SB if she’s seen getting in the bug with her red jacket on–but again, she could pack bags.

KeymasterBut as we all know Emma *needs* proof
Yup.
And this is why I still think there is some wonky timelin-ing we need to do.
From what I can figure with set pics it might go like this:
1) Hook arrived at Emma’s around 9am and Emma shut the door in his face
2) Emma and Henry go about their day in NYC and at some point Hook accosts Emma and starts telling her all these bizarre things (mid morning-afternoon)
3) Emma has Hook arrested (afternoon)
4) SOMETHING HAPPENS HERE THAT MAKES EMMA START TO TRUST HOOK. This *has* to happen in order for her to bail Hook out of jail and to take the potion. Cursed though she may be, Emma still needs some sort of proof to believe these wild claims. From the promo, we know she sees the dreamcatcher again and that there is the “this isn’t possible” moment which happens indoors while wearing her Cursed!Emma coat. I think those things happen in between Hooks’ arrest and his release. (afternoon-early evening)
5) Hook is released from jail. Emma drinks his potion and they hug. (early evening)
6) For some reason, Emma feels the need to see Mystery Man and it’s very upsetting. She and Hook go to the restaurant where she meets with Mystery Man and they say goodbye. This is also where Hook tells her everything that has happened. (evening)
7) Henry, Hook, and Emma (now in her leather coat) get into the bug and drive to SB (late evening)
The final moments of the episode are the trio arriving in SB.

Exactly! I’m trying to think of the simplest reason why Emma would start to think that what Hook is saying is the truth. And if Hook does give her Neal’s address and says something like “go there, you’ll believe me!” with or without Neal’s prompting (we have no idea if Neal told him to do this, but we do know that Hook has been to Neal’s apartment), *and* there is a picture of Henry and Neal from that day/those days in Manhattan, Emma is sure to realize that *something* is up. Because in her mind, that day never happened, so there shouldn’t be a picture of the two of them together. That there is more to his story to get her start believing he may be telling the truth.

Not at all, “it’s magic” is their infamous go-to reasoning for just about anything. 😆
But as we all know Emma *needs* proof. I like the idea of a cross section of the map, but all that would tell Emma is that some guy lived here that had a dream catcher and a map of Tallahassee.
The way I’m thinking of it is she sees the dream catcher first, but because she’s naturally a skeptic, she thinks, “Lots of people have dream catchers, those things are mass produced, that doesn’t prove anything.” But then if she hunts around just in case there’s something else there too, and she finds their old map that she pointed to Tallahassee on, suddenly it’s, “OK, so this isn’t just some random person with the same dream catcher, he also has our map, from the same hotel room where the dream catcher came from. This crazy pirate guy must really know Neal…and my parents, but that’s not possible, what is going on?!”
I don’t deny that a photo would be absolute proof, so it’d make sense if they had it be a photo. Just saying, I think something like the map could be just as convincing for Emma.

ParticipantI thought Henry didn’t get chance to get his camera because when they all went back for it, Hook stabbed Rumple, then it was a race against time to get Rumple back to Storybrooke?

The way I saw the scene it was that Henry accidenetly left his camera in Neal’s apartment and so they went back for it, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t snapping pics before they all went for pizza. So in between the conversation between Henry and Neal on the rooftop and the walking to get pizza, maybe Henry snapped a few pics.
