Warning spoilers ahead!
Jamie Chung is Magnolia/Mulan, http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/07/05/once-upon-a-time-mulan/!
Sarah Bolger cast as Anastasia/Aurora, http://tvline.com/2012/07/05/once-upon-a-time-casts-sarah-bolger-aurora/!
I think I'm most excited about the Sarah Bolger news just because I remember her from In America, and that movie makes me think of Samantha Morton, which makes me think of her directing Robert Carlyle in The Unloved.

I wonder how Aurora can still be young when supposedly the incident with Maleficent and the Sleeping curse was in the past. That doesn’t make sense to me unless Aurora is just a recurring character in fairytale land which i guess is possible but sort of seems unlikely
Unless Anastasia is her real world name, but why would characters be having two names still. That doesn’t make sense to me, unless they are trying to keep their identity a secret from Snow, Charming, and Emma. Like i could see bad guys doing that.

If Sarah Bolger is on board, it has to be an interesting part!. Possible flashback with Kristin Bauer van Straten next season? I loved Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather as a kid: really hoping we get a ONCE version of them.

I wondered about that, too. Then again, in the original Sleeping Beauty fairy tale she sleeps for 100 years! So they could work with that. Maybe she was only awakened shortly before the curse … I know Maleficent said that Aurora thwarted her plans when she was the same age as Snow/young Regina, but maybe she meant that she fell asleep instead of dying. Guess we’ll have to wait and see, what Horowitz&Kitsis show us. 🙂

Casting calls often have fake names for characters, so the names Anastasia and Magnolia might not be used on the show at all. Though if those were the character’s Storybrooke names, I guess they might be mentioned at some point.

We don’t even know for sure that she woke up at all in FTL. She may have just been napping the whole time they’ve been in Storybrooke. We know that the Sleeping Beauty story can’t end the same in FTL, because in the Once-iverse, it’s Emma who slays dragon Maleficent, not Prince Phillip. And when Regina went to see Maleficent, she wasn’t impressed that the sleeping curse had been broken by a kiss, so perhaps that part of the Sleeping Beauty story hadn’t happened yet in FTL, otherwise she shouldn’t have been surprised, (though it wouldn’t be unlike Regina to rush into a situation like that without thinking it through and considering all the facts first). In the original story, Aurora was 16, so if they wanted to bump her age up a few years, about 20 would be the right age if she’d been sleeping and not ageing ever since.
July 6, 2012 at 11:44 am #149610hjbauParticipantBased on what Maleficent and Regina said though it seemed like Sleeping Beauty had already been awaken from the sleeping curse though you could be right that she was only woken in the few years before the curse that the majority of the story we have been shown has taken place in so far.
It just seemed like it happened in the past and that Maleficent made the trade for the dark curse knowing that the sleeping curse wasn’t really going to stick. Though it is possible that Aurora is just a recurring character in fairytale land and not the real world.
Why would the casting call have fake names? If the names are fake then this is the first time they’ve done that for ONCE. They were all the real names in the other ones like for Cora and Daniel and for young Snow. Though no one knows who Cora and Daniel are not like with Aurora and Mulan. It just seems odd to me to put names at all on the casting call then.
I guess they probably are the same. It just seems unnecessarily secretive especially when they then just announce them so they haven’t actually kept the spoilers secret.
July 6, 2012 at 1:38 pm #149615obisgirlParticipantI was thinking about this and I remember, hearing awhile back that the 1997 film, titled Anastasia was not a Disney production. Wikipedia confirms that.. The 1997 film was a Fox Animation Studios production. Not only that, Anastasia was a real person, based on Anastasia Romanov.
We all know how Disney treats real people — i.e. Pocahontas — so, in my mind, it’s doubtful we will ever see princess Anastasia on OUAT.
I think Aurora/Sleeping Beauty will only be herself and not mixed with another princess.

In the thing you love most, it seems Malificent was the same age as young Regina when Sleeping Beauty beat her. What if Sleeping beauty was a child similar to Young Snow? The conversation between Regina and Malificent starts off about Snow and goes:
M: Weren’t you about the same age when you were to be married before she ruined it all? Yes you were.
R: Yes, it was about the same age you were when that sleeping beauty got the best of you, my dear Malificent.
Seeing how Malificent and Regina appear to be around the same age, it seems they were both beaten by children.
All magic comes with a price!
