I don’t think THO had anything to do with it, because then they would have known about Henry for a LONG time before they even first got into Storybrooke, and it seemed to me like they came to SB to destroy magic but after that initial goal found Henry and decided that getting him was more important. I think that either August, in an attempt to get Emma back on the path of breaking the curse, or Mr. Gold, as part of his “procuring” Henry for Regina, convinced her. Of course, both of these characters would have had to go through someone else to talk to Emma or Emma would have recognized them in SB.
Other possibility: Some outside party we’ve yet to meet (or, yes, maybe the Home Office) has been interested in breaking the curse from the beginning. This person convinced August to go break up Emma and Neal and told August that Neal was Baelfire, convinced Emma to give Henry up for adoption and then connected baby Henry to Gold when Gold was looking for a baby for Regina, and gave Mary Margaret the book and suggested that Henry might need it. I’m calling this my Mastermind theory, and I personally think that the outside party might be the Blue Fairy.

I think there is a difference between THO’s real goal and what GOAT perceive to be the real goal. GOAT were told that their mission was to destroy magic but I see them as foot soldiers, more or less mindlessly following orders. At some point something clued them in to the fact that Henry had greater importance for THO.

I would like to point out though that Henry was born in Phoenix, Oregon, not Arizona (I thought there was only one as well but apparently not…) – not that it changes much I’m sure but different part of the country still.
I definitely think that Emma spent the 2 years in Tallahassee searching for Neal and I had forgotten about her rant to Ashley so perhaps somebody did step in and got her to give him up. He wasn’t adopted til he was 3 weeks old I think so there is definitely a gap or two to fill in. Hopefully we get all of those stories together sometime soon and fill in some of those gaps.

It is likely it could be linked to the HO, as the timing of the story falling in season 3 would then make sense, just as not seeing week 1 of the curse didn’t make sense until they showed the “outsider”.
It is fun to go back to season 1 episodes and see all the little things they either foreshadowed (or cleverly ran with in writing new episodes).

Interesting thought; but I’m pretty sure from “Tallahassee” that Emma was in a state penitentiary in Phoenix, Arizona, which is where Henry was born.

I’m re-watching reason 1 and I’ve got a question.
I’m on episode 4 and Regina has just revealed to Emma that she knows Emma has had seven addresses in the past ten years and that the longest was two years in Tallahassee. Would that have been two years after she got out of prison? And if so was it ever mentioned that she went there in hopes that Neal was waiting for her there?
I think so – it makes sense that Emma went there after getting out of prison. It was never mentioned that she went there hoping that Neal would be there – but I think we can all safely assume that it was that way.
Also,as far as the whole Tallahassee thing is concerned, in Second Star to the Right, Emma says to Neal, “What do you want to hear Neal? That it killed me you never came looking for me even once i was locked up?That it didn’t hurt that you found Tallahassee with someone else?” So, unless she was talking in metaphor, that, combined with the fact that she spent 2 years in Tallahassee after she got out of prison-presumably in hopes of finding Neal-means there must be more to the story.

Hmm, I guess they met in Portland and moved down to Arizona around the time Emma ended up in jail then. I remember thinking all along it was Arizona and then the Oregon police cars threw a wrench into that but I guess maybe they went all the way down to Arizona and just ended up in a similarly-named place (there’s a Phoenix, Oregon as well apparently). This is like figuring out Emma’s…t-word…with how old she was.
Lots of gaps to fill in with that story then if they changed locations that drastically along their journey, + we need to find out about how Henry got to SB etc etc so I’m sure we’ll get that story at some point this season. That’s one of the over-arcing questions and since it relates to Neal leaving Emma I would imagine that when he gets back and they finally (hopefully) start talking through some stuff that more of this is explained.
I’m pretty sure her 2 years were spent in Tallahassee hoping he’d come looking for her there and she was obviously devastated that he didn’t. These two really need to talk, regardless of what happens going forward and we need answers!

More like Neal stole the watches in Phoenix, Arizona and then took a train to Portland, Oregon to escape from being caught… 🙂
May 18, 2013 at 8:38 pm #195335RumplesGirlKeymasterYes I agree. The t-word with Emma is tricky and there are some issues. Like, how long were they together? How old was she when they met? She said she was 18 when Henry was born.
I also think her line in SSTR about finding Tallahassee with someone else was a metaphor for Neal and Tamara. I think Neal has been waiting for 10 years and right as he was about to get his wish, of being with Emma again, Tamara stepped in and Neal, being as damaged as he is and wanting love and acceptance above all else, fell for her.
