In the end, whatever Cora felt for Rumple was totally eclipsed by her love of power. I think she was in lust with his power, what he could give her, darkness and the ability to make them all bend.
I completely agree with the first sentence. Cora’s thirst for power and high social standing were way more important to her than love. However, I see her ripping out her heart as saying that she did feel something deeper for Rumple because she wouldn’t have been able to enjoy her new life if she was always thinking about what could have been with Rumplestiltskin, but mileage varies on that part. The most important part is that she chose being without Rumple (and the benefits that it would reap over being with him), and that alone disqualifies her as his true love.

I think she was so full of hate that she has choose to cut her off of her last feelings to never has to kneel before someone. If Cora had run away wih Rumple I think then they both would get to the point of True Love or killing each other. I am not quite sure about that.

I guess we disagree. 🙂 Cause to me, ripping out her heart is saying that she didn’t love him enough or at all because in the end he didn’t mean anything to her. And the way I saw it playing out, she was using him all along to get out of the contract, or at least get it to change.

I think Cora’s confession at the end suggests that they could’ve have loved each other (this is what I think at least)…Her and Rumple just seemed to understand each other so much, having been ostracized and ridiculed by others when they were weak.
Can you imagine how it could have gone? 😕 They would have had a child together, cast the curse together…ruled Storybrooke together…it’s an interesting AU to think about. But I’m still happy Rumbelle happened, lol. 😆
Poor Nealfire. Cora almost became his stepmom.
March 11, 2013 at 1:58 am #178844RumplesGirlKeymasterThey do understand each other, I agree. They bring out the darkness in each other. They are both so full of hate and misery and anger and desire for POWER, but I think that lead them to loving the darkness in each other. I think Rumple lusted after the woman who was just as dark as he was and vice versa. He’s been alone (we assume) since Milah, all alone in his darkness, and he thought he craved more darkness. But what love really is, is finding the light amidst all the darkness. And together, there was nothing but dark between them. I don’t think the AU of Cora and Rumple would have been a good one. Regina may, in the end, have been enough for Cora when she got her heart, but I don’t think it would have worked that way with Rumple. Rumple and her feed each other the darkness and it would have been a never ending cycle.

I just lean toward the “She didn’t love him enough” side rather than “Didn’t love him at all.” With regards to the deal, I think that she was trying to cover all the bases depending on what she decided to do because she was conflicted (as in intriguied by running away with Rumplestiltskin but also trying to protect her interests if/when she didn’t).
March 11, 2013 at 2:06 am #178846midnight drearyParticipantThankfully, no, it wasn’t true love. Did they love each other? Definitely. But Cora refused to sacrifice her lust for power and revenge to run away with Rumpel, and in the end, she almost killed him. So, love? Yes. True love? No.
March 11, 2013 at 2:08 am #178847HappyEndingsSpectatorWhat did Cora say to Regina as she was dying? Where did Cora send Neil and Emma? ❓
I thought Snow was very clever playing Regina.
March 11, 2013 at 2:17 am #178849tiara_roseParticipantAnother question; I know she told Rumple that she will get the child from henry ( random child), but we didn’t get a hint how long after the wedding she get Regina (something like:two yeas later), so is she maybe Rumples daughter and know one will ever found out the truth, cause with Coras death the truth dies with her. Wouldn’t it be great if Doctor Whale found it out by accident. Why is bae and Regina so similar with the blood?
I know it would mess up the family tree, but I kind of like a complicated family tree…. 😆

March 11, 2013 at 2:27 am #178851RumplesGirlKeymasterBut she was playing him! That’s how I read it. She said:
“Rumple can we have this?” “If you truly wish it!”
Obviously she didn’t wish it because she chose the other direction, she chose power. I don’t think it was love. It think it was lust for power. She only brought up love so he’d change the contract so she wouldn’t owe him anything because Cora refuses to owe people things.
