And if she were already pregnant and know that is she choose also isolation and darkness fo her daughter and give her another chance, but she have to rip out all the feelings to play her part in protecting her unborn child. And this action lead to the self filling prophecy of Rumple, cause after that c she could fill nothing anymore.

Agree with this. She thought she loved Rumplestiltskin but she just loved his power. And the king’s words that “love is weakness” just gave her an excuse to ensure she could never be distracted from her quest for power again.
Totally agree that it wasn’t until Regina shoved her heart back in that she realised what love is – she really did love her daughter and didn’t realise what that actually felt like until the very end.
Didn’t make me feel sorry for her though!
March 11, 2013 at 3:22 am #178867hcadiaParticipantAfter this episode, I kinda feel for Cora, why she has become the way she is now.
She was poor, her father was drunk (i guess everyday…), she has to work hard enough to survive, she didn’t get the love from parents as she should, her life was miserable enough and in her position, she would have done everything/anything just for a easy ticket to a better life….. so in this case as her life was bad, the royals made fun of her in front of everyone…. made her feel so bad to hate (same way like Rumple had to kiss the shoe of the guy in season 1 before he became the dark one)… and that hate is flowing in her blood, she wanted revenge, she wanted power, she wanted wealth, she wanted them to never ever get the chance to even make her go down on her knees.. and there she has Rumple to help her.He could help her to get what she wants, to help her to get to her goal…. revenge and power. BUT!!! Somehow, along on the road.. she felt for Rumple, she truly loved rumple and she even wanted to run away with him, leave the Kingdom behind (that was what the rumor said about her and rumple at the castle). Rumple was making her anger and revenge fading, so she instead of doing what “normal” person in love would do… (running away with true love) she ripped her heart out to stop feeling. She wanted to stop feeling for Rumple and do want she had to do, gain power and rule the kingdom, because LOVE was indeed A WEAKNESS and making her life so much miserable. I know that if you truly love someone you would give up everything just to be with that person, but sometimes, you can love that person even if you can’t give up everything to be with that person… it doesn’t make you love that person less.. it hurts (that’s why Cora had to pull off her heart to stop that emotion in her), especially for persons who been through rough times and they are mental charged with non-stop hate.
Lets don’t compare Belle’s love to Rumple and Cora’s love to Rumple. That is two different kind of love. But both of them are love. Everyone has different chapters of love and pasts, we can’t never compare. Everyone love differently. If Cora never loved Rumple THAT MUCH… she would never take off her heart.. she could just played him to get powers and run away to be Queen..
March 11, 2013 at 5:16 am #178900pekadotParticipantTo me, the fact that she ripped out her own heart means that she didn’t really love him because she was willing to give him up. Belle was coming back to Rumple. She was going to fight for their love. In the end, whatever Cora felt for Rumple was totally eclipsed by her love of power. I think she was in lust with his power, what he could give her, darkness and the ability to make them all bend.
Agreed. I think the fact that she was willing to rip her own heart out showed that love wasn’t the most important thing on her agenda. Although, we could also argue this in “Skin Deep” when Rumple chose his power over Belle. Of course, the difference here is probably fear in Rumple’s case. Cora breaking his heart gives context to Rumple completely freaking out on Belle and not thinking she could love him. After all, two women (that we know of) both hurt him in similar ways…
March 11, 2013 at 5:36 am #178904angiebelleParticipantI think Cora absolutely did love Rumple…but just as he did, she decided power was more important to her than love. She then removed her own heart so her love wouldn’t prevent her from gaining power.

We’ve seen plenty of love that wasn’t True Love on the show before, though it’s generally been one-sided. And I think that the power of True Love’s Kiss depends on something even greater than just mutual love–perhaps an openness and willingness to do anything for the other. Clearly, since Cora chose to leave Rumple, she did not have that willingness; in the case of Charming and Snow, who have used the kiss multiple times, we’ve seen that they’ll gladly die to save the other, repeatedly. We’ve also seen that despite being his True Love, Belle’s kiss only partially worked–as soon as doubt entered Rumple’s mind, the effect was reversed. It also hasn’t broken his DO curse despite the fact that they did kiss after he brought back magic; it was clear in that moment that although they passionately love one another, he was not yet willing to be entirely honest with her–he was already scheming how he would make Regina dead without breaking his promise.
Snow and Charming’s kisses while cursed in SB didn’t do anything, either, because both of them were torn about the Kathryn situation and couldn’t be entirely open to one another. I think that’s relevant, too. It’s possible that, if they had managed to overcome that obstacle completely, their kisses could have threatened the curse (perhaps bringing back their memories); that may be why Regina was so desperate to keep them apart, aside from her whole vendetta against them.
Ooh, but interesting thing…Graham said he couldn’t feel anything without his heart, until Emma kissed him and he got his memories back. Hm.

March 11, 2013 at 6:12 am #178912lunatigerParticipantI think Cora and Rumple did love each other but it was a selfish kind of love. Their love was based on revenge and hate. Both saw a kindred spirit in each other because of similar backgrounds. They clung onto each other because they can relate to one another. They had the same blood-lust and darkness in their souls. I agree on what other posters said that Cora loved Rumple but she didn’t love him enough to give up power and wealth. Nothing was ever mentioned about “True Love” between Cora and Rumple throughout the entire episode.
Belle and Rumple’s relationship IS True Love. It is a selfless kind of love. Belle has always put Rumple’s interest ahead of hers and always made sacrifices for Rumple. Rumple’s phone conversation was also an act of selflessness to put Belle first and foremost even as he laid dying on his deathbed. I think this is what True Love means, when both parties are willing to put the other before themselves.
March 11, 2013 at 6:50 am #178916KebParticipantYeah, I was thinking through it further: When Belle’s kiss almost broke the DO curse, Rumple had just let her go–given her the freedom she craved, sacrificing his own apparent pleasure at having her around (not to mention his end of the bargain–a caretaker for his estate, and company to keep him from being lonely). That was putting her needs and desires first, even if it did seem somewhat motivated by fear at what he was feeling.
And then she came back, and his sheer joy at seeing her return was probably a first for him–perhaps the first time he’d felt that kind of joy since he heard he was having a son. He was still caught up in that moment when she kissed him.
Her coming back was an act of sacrifice as well–wanting to free him of his curse, giving up the freedom that he had offered her. Yes, Regina manipulated her into it, but it didn’t take much.
So in that moment, until Rumple realized the curse was breaking and suddenly doubted her love for him–love that he’d been certain of moments before when she came back–TLK worked.
While I can see Rumple possibly giving up much for Milah and even Cora (and he DID sacrifice much to be with Bae–first his ankle and then becoming the Dark One, and only for that one moment couldn’t give up his power for Bae), because he is natively a loving person (less so post-DO), he wasn’t willing to die for Milah when Killian gave him the chance (Bae mattered more to him in that moment), and he never offered to give up anything for Cora.

This. Not long before Cora met Rumple, maybe an hour or so at most, she’d said to the King, “You’ve got some nerve disparaging me, you’re selling off your own flesh and blood.” Then Rumple presents her with a contract and she gives him the side eye and says, “My first born child?” She’s not gonna change her opinion on the morality of selling off your own flesh and blood in the space of a couple of hours. I think she was scheming the whole time to find a way to get the power, the adoration, and keep the baby.
March 11, 2013 at 8:40 am #178923ser_dragonParticipantAnd I think that she loved him so that why she ripped out her heart, to not succumb to the temptation. She loved him but then she decided she loved power more.
