Okay, here’s what’s been bothering me about Hook outrunning the curse:
1- How does one “outrun” the curse? Are they really trying to say he sailed out to the middle of nowhere in the ocean and the curse just didn’t come for him? Doesn’t the curse take everyone everywhere in the whole Enchanted Forest???? Or does it not go in the ocean? Because if so, then that would have solved a lot of issues in S1.
2- Magic Beans? Didn’t Regina say that all the portal in their world were gone including the magic beans and that there was no way to get to SB except for the curse??? Plus, don’t magic beans take 100 years to grow? Plus, weren’t all the magic beans destroyed and used in SB?
3- Who gave Hook the bean? He said he traded his ship for a bean…. But if the curse took everyone to SB who the heck was still in the EF, with a magic bean at that, to trade Hook for his ship???I JUST. DONT. GET. IT,,,,

1. No one knows. He didn’t have that much time. The JR is the fastest ship in the realm but it’s still really wonky, timeline wise. Snowing cast the curse, Zelena returns to the Dark One’s Castle to prepare, Neal sends the dove to Hook and at the same time, the curse is beginning to cover the land. So the dove had to have found Hook almost instantaneously and then Hook had to hightail it out of there like mad.
2. Plot device bean is plot devicey
3. No one knows. I don’t think we’ll get an answer to “who”

How can he outrun it? Does the curse only cover a particular region? I just can’t grasp how it easy it apparently is to escape the curse for not only one person, but at least two given that Hook met someone to trade his ship to, AND apparently Ariel and Eric are still in the EF!!!!! >.< what the heck!!!!! So the curse just grabs people I'm the immediate location then >> I guess I’ll just have to accept that

He outran it because the ship is fast but like I said, that’s still really wonky timeline wise.
The curse grabs people as it moves over the land, so in the original Snow and Regina and Charming were the last to be picked up. In this one, they were the first.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"June 12, 2014 at 5:54 pm #273594Jenna_BParticipantI always understood the first curse to take only Regina/Snow’s kingdom and maybe some surrounding areas, with the exception of the people caught under Cora’s bubble. But I never understood it to mean the curse took the entire realm. Because how do you fit an entire realm of people into one town? And didn’t they say at some point Regina could choose certain people who would absolutely get caught up in her curse? Anyway, since this 2nd curse was essentially a recast of the 1st curse, I figured it worked pretty much the same way. And if Ariel and Eric were outside the curse’s limits, I would assume Hook and the ship may have been pretty close to the edge as well, as I’d assume he’d be in closer proximity to Ariel than Regina and Snowing.
In regard to the bean – Because what’s ‘impossible’ to one person isn’t necessarily ‘impossible’ to another person. Hook was still a pirate…he probably knew some not-so-socially-moral people who dabble in ‘hard-to-get’ goods…even Smee was able to procure difficult to find things. Heck, even in our world that’s a reality. I can’t buy a kidney on eBay, but if I really want to buy a kidney, there are ways to get my hands on one! So although they’re difficult to procure, I think a pirate would be able to make a deal with someone shady to get what he needed to get where he needed. And his group of ‘friends’ may be willing to trade with one of their own, but that doesn’t mean they’re willing to trade with the Dark One or the Evil Queen – hence the ‘gone’ and ‘impossible’.
Yes, it’s a stretch, even for me. But we’re also not talking reality here. I have a much easier time believing magical, fantastic things could happen in the EF than what they’ve suggested has happened in our realm! I still don’t get how Neal still had his apt over more than a year!!! And seriously, where did Emma get school transcripts for Henry when Storybrooke went poof?! 🙂

“Storybrooke is bigger than you think”–Regina Mills, S1

She chose who came with her from OTHER lands. Hence Jeff and Whale

But weren’t there some comments in S1 about the curse effecting the entire land? I never thought the curse only effected a certain region and left others untouched or couldn’t reach some parts. Even Blue said the curse would sacrifice this land (EF) for the next (our world) so I assumed the curse operated on a more global scale which is why I’m having trouble understanding how Hook can outrun it.

But this isn’t what I mean. I’m not saying Regina couldn’t FIND a bean, there shouldn’t be ANY beans left in the EF let alone anywhere. Regina said there was a walls placed between their world and our world and there were no portals or beans left that could get them back there because that was price when she stopped Pans curse. The only way to get back was with the use of the dark curse. So when A.) The curse took away all portals including beans and B.) beans take 100 years to grow, how the heck could Hook find someone who just so happens to have a bean? I’m just gonna say that I’m thinking too hard and A&E aren’t thinking hard enough and accept that as my answer

The original curse itself doesn’t make much sense to me — time stopped in all lands so easy peasy! Zelena’s the same age as her sister and not 30 years older come 3B! but not everyone in every land got scooped up and brought to our land? Why not? And now all-powerful was this curse if Cora was able to poke her little staff thingy on the ground and send up a giant bubble of protection?
Again, most definitely, it’s a stretch saying the ol’ Captain was able to outrun the curse. I agree. It would’ve made more sense to me to just say the curse didn’t reach that far or something. But if you can stretch your imagination enough to accept Regina’s initial casting of the curse, I don’t think it should be so difficult to believe there were ways around curse 2.0…

Yes it took everything from the EF except the bubble. Hence why Regina thought that there was NO more EF in 2×1. She thought it was utterly destroyed. It took only the people Regina wanted from other lands–Jeff and Whale, people who had crossed her before. She never knew Zelena so Z didn’t come. Time stopped in every land–the EF, Oz, WL, and Fictional London. Why? Magic. “All of our prisons will be time” but not every goes to the EF.

no I agree. But it’s just that Hook will have to high tail it like mad. Because there is only a very tiny amount of room for curse cast–dove–Hook leaving his crew and fleeing.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"June 12, 2014 at 6:39 pm #273605Epona_610ParticipantMaybe every time the curse gets reused, it loses some of its potency and takes fewer and fewer people? Haha.
Really though, my theory is nearly the same as Jenna’s: that the EF isn’t a whole world by itself, and the curse must not cover the entirety of whatever world the EF is in. If that’s the case, then it would all make sense, more or less…He outran the curse to some other part of that world whereupon he heard of someone with a magic bean (who wanted a really fast ship, I guess? ha)–I don’t remember exactly what was said about any remaining magic beans, though.
However, when he was telling Emma what had happened, Hook did make it sound like it was only after the curse had taken effect that even a magic bean would’ve been able to get someone to our world, because it had broken down the walls or whatever, so it seems like that part does at least add up. As for how large the curse’s reach is and whether the EF is an entire world of its own or maybe just a continent or something…still lots of questions there.
