TheLoneBAMF–that is an excellent analysis of it.  Rumple and Emma were both revisiting things that they thought they had moved past, yet PP forced them to rethink and relive.   Diabolical!

First, he’s forcing her to remember painful memories. Those feelings are also ones that will alienate her from her parents, destabilizing the group and her role as leader.

And a side effect of that alienation from her parents is that it plants seeds of doubt in their minds, as well as emotionally crippling Emma herself. It’s like 3 for the price of 1.

I think the second set of promotional photos and taglines adds credence to this idea- as they several are regarding believing a (insert the dark or sad side of a character here) can overcome their personal demons, demons that Pan is going to do his best to use.

In the end, I think we’ll have a situation where many of the characters don’t believe in themselves and are consumed by self doubt- but unlike the beginning of the season, they will start to believe in one another. This unity will be the weapon they use to defeat Pan, who will likely have expected them to crumble.

I could see that happening, with them ultimately starting to believe in each other and work together more effectively. One of my big questions right now though is what does Pan actually hope to achieve with this lot? Sure, he’s broken down plenty of people before, but as far as we know they’ve all been random kids. This time we’re talking about the destined kid in the picture and his family, this is the culmination of a game that started centuries earlier, so I’d think that the stakes would be higher in this case, and perhaps the objective is even different to what Pan’s done before?

Is Henry the ultimate challenge for Pan?  If he can break the heart of the truest believer?

Emma’s been holding her parents at arms length for a long time.  I would argue that there was more warmth and openness between Emma and Mary Margaret before she knew Mary Margaret was her mother.  I think Pan wants Emma to get better.  I think that admitting she feels like an orphan is the first step toward healing.  And how much worse is it going to hurt her when he takes the life of her parents if she really, finally, loves and accepts them as such at the time.

So why would Peter bring this up? Again, it’s part of his ploy, and it’s a multi-pronged attack. First, he’s forcing her to remember painful memories. Those feelings are also ones that will alienate her from her parents, destabilizing the group and her role as leader. Thirdly, by telling her the map would only reveal itself when she admitted who she really was, he forces the view that she “really is” just an orphan, when that is a viewpoint created just to break her down and destroy the personal growth she’s had since coming to Storybrooke.

Excellent analysis! PP’s weapon of choice isn’t a sword or even a magic fireball; it’s exploiting people’s weaknesses.

Which makes me wonder if PP will be paying a visit to each of our JR6 at some point, though he seems to especially like messing with Emma. I really want some PP/Hook and PP/Rumple moments.

Maybe! It would certainly be the ultimate victory for him.

I think he’s made Emma his main target because he has his own birth-mummy issues. In tormenting Emma, he’s transferring the anger he has towards his own mother.

yes i dont think he believes any mother can be there for their child an in breaking emma he not only breaks her relationship with her mother (and father) but with her as a mother too… an also in a way regina.. because he is making emma the key player here it is like saying shes the number one mom so regina will be like whats my part to play? its going to be a tough ride with everyone battling their own demons and the demon pan but they will over come them an be stronger together 😀
