Yeah, he’s had three centuries to learn how people work. He reads people like a book–look at how quickly he taps into what makes Emma run in S1, and then surmises her feelings regarding Nealfire in S2. He’s good at it, and I think that’s experience rather than seeing abilities. He was always intelligent, too, but I think it’s having a chance to test people and experiment on them for a couple centuries that’s made him so good at predicting their behaviors.

August 14, 2013 at 3:44 pm #204895PriceofMagicParticipantWe know the doll has some deep meaning for Rumple. Since the doll was a “gift” to Rumple from PP, what if the doll didn’t originate in Neverland and wasn’t brought there by Bae or Rumple, how did the doll get to Neverland?
Either the doll has something to do with Rumple’s past, something he thought he lost whilst growing up or it is something that Rumple or Milah made for Bae, perhaps his first toy, that Bae outgrew.
All magic comes with a price!

I agree I’ve always had the feeling that Pan and Rumpelstiltskin might have formed an alliance of convenience. My theory is that maybe this alliance happened when Bae was in neverland and the two had a falling out when Rumpelstiltskin discovered it.
August 14, 2013 at 10:29 pm #204976PheeParticipantI just dunno that I could buy it if Rumple knew Bae was in NL and he left him there. Even if PP kicked him out so he couldn’t get to Bae, Rumple would have been trying to then get back to NL, instead of building the Curse and manipulating the situation to get to the land without magic.
The only way that Rumple having knowledge of Bae having been in NL would work for me, is if PP told Rumple that Bae was already gone, and offered up some sort of very definitive proof.
I can see Rumple going to NL for parts of the Curse, instead of going there searching for Bae. SB was like NL in the sense that no one aged, so perhaps that vital part of the Curse could only be got in NL. If Rumple had been there previously, as a child, he’d have knowledge about the place, perhaps including what it is specifically that keeps everyone from aging. He’d also know that the Shadow has the ability to travel between worlds, (including the land without magic if little Rumple was there long enough to speak with other Lost Boys who’d come from our world), without the need of a traditional style portal if it had happened to him personally, and that was another thing that was necessary for the Curse. The Curse was enacted by sacrificing the heart of the thing you love most, and now we’ve had it suggested that the boy in PP’s pic won’t survive, and 301 is called The Heart of the Truest Believer. So we also have heart sacrifice as another potential similarity between NL and the Curse. I’m really starting to think that NL must be where Rumple got the original recipe version of the Curse. Going there for Curse “ingredients” is more believable motivation than going there searching for Bae IMO, because Rumple thought that Bae went down the beanhole to a land without magic, so why would Rumple be looking for Bae in lands with magic? But if he’s searching for a powerful Curse, and he’d been to NL before and knows the intense sort of magic that’s there and some of the specifics of it, it would make total sense for him to go back there in his search for the Curse.
Also, as I’ve said previously, (don’t remember if it was this thread or another one), if Rumple had interacted with PP in his younger days, and he’d been smacked down, he’d relish the opportunity to go back and show PP how powerful he’d become.
I can imagine PP making sure that Bae saw Rumple while he was there, especially if he hates Rumple, and therefore also hates Bae and wanted him to suffer, seeing the evil acts that his father planning. But I doubt PP would let Rumple see Bae, because PP wants Rumple to go back to FTL and cast the Curse, (no Curse = no Henry, and PP needs Henry), and that won’t happen if Rumple becomes fixated on trying to get Bae out of NL.
August 14, 2013 at 11:13 pm #204983kfchimeraParticipantI agree it makes more sense Rumpel went to NL to look for curse ingredients, not Bae. I don’t think he had to have gone as a little kid to know about NL if there were tales about it.

August 14, 2013 at 11:16 pm #204984RumplesGirlKeymasterIn my head I have this image of Rumple returning to NL after being away for a long time and now he’s the Dark One and he’s come for special potion things and high up in a tree we see Baelfire watching his Papa, apparently more evil than ever.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"August 15, 2013 at 4:00 pm #205089SlurpeezParticipantHaving looked at the doll again, I now think it was made from corn husk vs. straw. Now, I’m no expert when it comes to crafts. Yet, have a look at these how-to instructions to make dolls from corn husks. And compare to the image of the doll Rumple held in the clip.

August 15, 2013 at 4:13 pm #205099SlurpeezParticipantDolls of Corn husk were made by native Indians to entertain children. The more this doll spends time with children, the more his face fades away. This lets me think that Rumples doll has something to do with the Indians in NL. Maybe there will be a Tiger Lily.
That’s a really good idea! Tiger Lilly’s tribe might have made corn-husk dolls for the children of the island. Yet, that still doesn’t confirm whether the doll was Rumple’s or Bae’s since we know Bae spent a long time in NL. So, the doll could still just as easily belong to Baelfire.

August 15, 2013 at 4:14 pm #205100RumplesGirlKeymasterI’m open to Tiger Lily!!! But yeah, still doesn’t answer if it’s Rumple or Bae’s.

So true!
Your simple description (PP wants Rumple to cast the curse; no curse=no Henry) opens up a world of possibilities. That small tidbit could change everything we thought we knew about everyone.Keeper Nealfire's/Bae's scarf, Henry and Neal's bribery ice cream sundae, Baelfire's sword, the coconut map, and more.
