Zelena is alive! And living as Maid Marian with Robin Hood in NYC!
Were you shocked? How do you feel about her being back? What kind of trouble do you think she’ll get up to? And how do you feel about the overall plot of her return?

ARE YOU READY FOLKS!! EVIL VS WICKED ROUND 2 COMING SOON!!!

To me there was no way Zelena was dead so I’m excited to see her back. She’s one of the scariest villains on the show because she has nothing to lose. She is willing to do anything. I get the same feeling from Cruella.
As far as her being Marian, I understand why folks won’t like that twist, but I do! Its such a Once Upon a Time-y thing to do and it just reiterates that you can’t use real world logic on a show about storybook characters, time travel, and magic.
I do think the writers knew Marian was Zelena in 3B. To have Regina’s last living blood family member be the block in the road to her happy ending, and in a very Cora-like fashion, seems cosmic. In the past she would have just eliminated that obstacle. Now we get to see her find a new way to overcome adversity. That is a great story to tell.
What I DON’T like is how this little reveal will affect Roland. What a terrible thing to do to a child and I will be extremely furious if there is no fall out from the fact that Zelena has been acting as this child’s mother (who is dead) for months.

Surely the time to gloat about stealing your sister’s boyfriend is AFTER Rumple’s secured you that happily ever after, NOT BEFORE, when your sister can still find a way to prevent your happily ever after from happening. I get that Zelena isn’t privy to how Rumple’s end of the plan is unfolding, so she would assume that he and Regina aren’t hanging out, and she wouldn’t know that he’s the one who put Regina up to that phonecall. And I get that Zelena just can’t help herself because she loves a good gloat. But seriously, when she gets taken down, she’s only got herself to blame, because DUMB.
April 13, 2015 at 10:29 am #301346SlurpeezParticipantI’m not at all happy to see Zelena survived while Baelfire did not. I’m not at all pleased to watch Zelena gloat over Rumple as he is near death. Zelena is perhaps my least favorite villain of all time — even worse that Peter Pan. As I wrote in another thread, why does karma apply to Rumple but not to Zelena? She did some awful things to Rumple (i.e. killing his son, controlling Rumple like a puppet), killed Maid Marian, turned people into flying monkeys, and only God knows what else she did to Glinda and the citizens of Oz during her reign of terror there.

I do genuinely believe that they planned on this Marian=Zelena plot twist since the end of Season 3. Many fans thought just the way Zelena “died” last Season was off, and plenty did suspect Marian not being the real Marian even back then. If they wanted Zelena dead for good, why not just have Rumple crush her heart like he typically does to his other victims? I think the writers still wanted more to do with the character, and didn’t want to just end things there and then. Does that mean the execution wasn’t sloppy? Certainly not the case. It’s clear they had this Marian returning subplot as merely an obstacle for Outlaw Queen, but they always needed a way out. I’d rather not have this thread turn into yet another moral debate concerning Outlaw Queen, for the record.

Quite possibly, but then the way Marian was handled in 4A is weird. I’ll quote Lily Sparks since she said it best:
Maid Marian has always been Zelena? All the time she was in Storybrooke, Maid Marian was Zelena in disguise, quietly moving in on Robin Hood to spite Regina? So this was true when she told Regina that Regina could have Robin Hood because she, Maid Marian, was moving on? And this was true when she unwittingly ate some magicked ice cream that turned her into an ice statue for the entire time Elsa was in town? And this was also true when she first came to Storybrooke and immediately recognized Roland, who Zelena had never seen before?
You’re probably right that the writers did plan this, but once again we’re looking at the execution for the plot.

I agree. I saw some gifs and rewatched the scene where Marian dies and it seems pretty clear it was shot on the same day.

This has been brought up before, but I think Zelena was giving Regina false hope. She gave Regina that talk to make her think that she was about to get her happy ending with Robin Hood, only to take it away by appearing to be under the freezing spell again. Zelena admitted that her plan of making Robin fall in love with her wasn’t working, so she needed another tactic to ruin Regina’s happiness. Marian falling under the freezing spell again when Ingrid’s magic wore off for everything else never made sense to begin with. I think the first time Marian wad frozen was an actual accident on Zelena’s part, as she had no idea who Ingrid was, nor knew she would be a threat. Ironically, Regina actually saved Zelena’s life in the process. Twice actually, since Regina protected her from being smushed by Marshmallow. As for Roland, Zelena had been spying on all of them during the missing year in the Enchanted Forest. Zelena also kept tabs on everyone back in Storybrooke, too.
April 13, 2015 at 12:44 pm #301382CorbinParticipantThis could just be an issue of the writers not wanting this twist to get out, so they didn’t tell the actors. I mean, the only time I could see Zelena in “Marian” was in this episode, so it would’ve been better if they had let Christie Laing know that she’s supposed to be someone in disguise.
