Zelena was a villain that, when she was originally teased, I was excited about. 3×12 and 3×13 were great episodes in her arc, and she was posed as a truly intimidating figure. As time passed (and after Neal’s death), she became to me a brat who was upset because she wasn’t the favorite. This is why I’m mixed about her returning: I think she has the potential to be a truly intimidating figure, but the way she was just like, “Haha, Rumps! I got the best of you and Regina and I killed your son and I WIN AND YOU LOSE! HA!” made me wish she was just porcelain.

Also, I don’t like how a.) Rumple is now doing everything he’s doing because Zelena has his life in her hands, again and b.) how Rumple is agreeing to work with her and even calling it an “understanding.” What understanding? That she’s now one of Rumple’s Angels? It doesn’t feel believable to me, so unless they do something quick to redeem her character (I mean, she didn’t have to dispose of Marian. She shouldn’t even have had the magic to dispose of Marian because of her pendant being destroyed!), I’m going to be annoyed seeing her on Sunday nights.

Oh, and how did Zelena get all green and wicked in the “Snow Falls” period? She would’ve been dressed in the blue sweater she was wearing in the prison cell. And if they use the “the two Zelenas during that time merged into the one” time travel law (which I think is what’s supposed to happen), why didn’t that happen to Hook?

it was just handled so badly overall. my only hope is that this gets re-retconned somehow and Zelena’s been playing at a longer game.

more to the point, how did she even become corporal again? She was a sentient life force floating around the EF…but then became all…fleshy again?

These things are best left unquestioned, since there probably is not good consistent or narrative answer. The answer from the writers is probably just some generic hand-wavy  reply like “magic!” when the truth is plot!

She rose from the ashes like a phoenix….much like how Maleficent’s body got put back together.

And this is Zelena…the villain whose been confirmed by Rumple to be, well was, the most powerful practitioner in dark magic…that is until Regina defeated her and took that title back.

One villain I wished just stayed dead! I was upset that they killed Marian yet again. I just can’t help but think of poor Roland. I mean really?

For some reason I loved/hated Peter Pan but I just don’t have a love/hate relationship with Zelena. I would prefer to have Ingrid back and Cora too!

re: Zelena’s pendent. Does it contain all of her magic? She had magic without it. And seemed to have at least enough magic not to die in that jail cell. What exactly does the pendant do?

Your question answers Corbin’s, and vice-versa.

So let me get this straight. Zelena doesn’t share Marion’s knowledge, and we are shown this, but she presumably also doesn’t know any of her mannerisms, tastes, daily habits, little rituals… everything that emerges in contexts of familial intimacy, and that constitutes a person. And yet, she is able to fool her loving husband, and more importantly, her son?

Pardon the naive question, but is anyone else perhaps struck by the incredible irony of a show allegedly about the irreplaceability of love and family to have one of its main supporting male characters and his kid not being able to recognize that their wife/mom has been replaced by a leprechaun… I mean wicked witch?

From the episode summary on the wikia…

Glinda explains that it’s a very special pendant which each of the witches in the sisterhood wears, and as she fastens it around Zelena’s neck, she tells her to guard it with her life because, in many ways, it now is her life. “You were born with great power, Zelena. And now… now this pendant will harness, protect and grow that power. All of it.” Zelena asks if it will make her stronger, and Glinda answers positively, however, she adds that there’s a price: without the pendant, she will become powerless. But so long as she does continue to wear it, she will be able to accomplish untold miracles.
