So let me get this straight. Zelena doesn’t share Marion’s knowledge, and we are shown this, but she presumably also doesn’t know any of her mannerisms, tastes, daily habits, little rituals… everything that emerges in contexts of familial intimacy, and that constitutes a person. And yet, she is able to fool her loving husband, and more importantly, her son?
Pardon the naive question, but is anyone else perhaps struck by the incredible irony of a show allegedly about the irreplaceability of love and family to have one of its main supporting male characters and his kid not being able to recognize that their wife/mom has been replaced by a leprechaun… I mean wicked witch?
I almost want to say we can give Roland a pass because he’s so young, but part of me thinks that maybe he’d be the one who would be more likely to pick up that something’s not right about his mother? It’s rather absurd that Zelena could get the lie past Robin. It’d be one thing if Zelena had seen enough of Marian to be able to pick up on how she behaved and could imitate her. But Zelena didn’t know Marian, didn’t see how she behaved around Robin and Roland, so it’s just…*sigh*…the more I think about how they wrote this whole situation, the less sense it makes, and the more it irritates me.

Well I am now
Does any one get why Zelena is seen in the mirror and not Marian? Does she have to avoid all reflective surfaces at all times?
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 14, 2015 at 8:08 am #301561SweetsParticipantIn defense of Robin and Roland not knowing the difference. If I recall correctly there have been at least 5 years (not counting the 28 cursed years) since the time of Marian’s Zelena death and when “Marian” came back to Storybrooke. Roland was like 2-3 years old when Marian died? He wouldn’t know her personality from paint.
Robin obviously does recognize something is wrong but really who thinks, hey my wife who I haven’t interacted with for 5 years is acting kinda strange, maybe she’s NOT my wife but my True Loves demented sister back from the dead and posing as my wife in the Land Without Magic?
April 14, 2015 at 8:31 am #301566CorbinParticipantSomething else I noticed: in 3×22, after “Marian” comes back, she runs to Robin and Roland. Roland looks up to her and says, “Mama?” She responds, “Roland!” Zelena never once met Roland during her arc, so how would she know his name?
Also, how did Zelena get the clover back from Robin Hood? Did she poof it?

Oh…that’s…a good question.

Sure, that’s probably not the first thing that’s going to pop into one’s head. 🙂 But there really are those small things that people do almost at the level of unconscious bodily habits that make them them. I’m talking at the level of how someone likes to wear their hair when no one else is around, or how one hugs, for instance. They’ve been together for a long time, and they were adults, not a teenager romance, so there’s been enough time to settle into these little habits of familiarity. Have enough things off, and it would ring alarm bells. I’m simply saying that I could imagine that he would know that something was off beyond her apparent gaps in knowledge that she is seemingly able to cover up like a natural born spy! Beyond the sense of estrangement, I feel like there would be a feeling that something’s off on a profound, existential level. You might not think they’ve been replaced by a killer alien robot, but you certainly would wonder where the personality makeover is coming from.
I don’t know. Maybe this whole Marian swap is actually an insidious commentary on gender relations on E&A’s part 😉

Zelena was in the Enchanted Forest for a year fighting Team Hero. She would know who Robin and Roland are. Also, she went back in time with her knowledge of everything that happened in 3B.

I agree, but he explicitly said “I feel like this is another person.” The only thing we are missing is his POV on why he feels this way.

There were 6 necklaces in the draw.
I, personally, LOVED Zelena in this episode. I’m annoyed that they had her kill Marian, but I think they have decided to make her an all-out evil villainess now (without any more sympathetic flashbacks), so having her kill someone makes sense, so long as there’s no redemption/happy ending for her. She’s going to be one of those villains I love to watch rise to glory before falling spectacularly to the heroes. Her New York scenes were so good, she was obviously reveling in Rumple and Regina’s predicaments lol.
She’s a huge pain in the butt for both Rumple and Regina, so I doubt she’ll make it to next season. In fact, I’m willing to bet that she and Rumple will be the only main villains this series not to get a happy ending; Ursula has hers, I believe Mal will be reunited with Lily, and I think Cruella may get her’s this Sunday.
"so there’s this new show….."
"there’s lesbians in it"April 14, 2015 at 2:21 pm #301588mousearsParticipantI said this back when this was a spoiler, but I’ll say it again. I do genuinely believe that they planned on this Marian=Zelena plot twist since the end of Season 3. Many fans thought just the way Zelena “died” last Season was off, and plenty did suspect Marian not being the real Marian even back then. If they wanted Zelena dead for good, why not just have Rumple crush her heart like he typically does to his other victims? I think the writers still wanted more to do with the character, and didn’t want to just end things there and then. Does that mean the execution wasn’t sloppy? Certainly not the case. It’s clear they had this Marian returning subplot as merely an obstacle for Outlaw Queen, but they always needed a way out. I’d rather not have this thread turn into yet another moral debate concerning Outlaw Queen, for the record.
AMEN!

I don’t think all mirrors show Zelarian’s true self, I think the mirror in the apartment was an artistic choice to remind the viewers that Marian is really Zelena and is making out with Robin to spite Regina. This episode was supposed to fix OQ with Zelarian but it’s only made it worse and more morally questionable.
Question: Where does Zelarian and Robin stand on the consent issue? Robin isn’t being “forced” to make out with Zelarian but he thinks he’s making out with Marian and wouldn’t have made out with Zelena if he’d known it was actually her?
All magic comes with a price!
