there are just too many problems with this, both in terms of race/gender(fridging a WoC), consent and storyline consistency. i really wish A&E were better at admitting screw ups. it’s usually easier to pull back or go “psyche” on a convoluted retcon that it is to pull off that retcon in the first place.

April 24, 2015 at 12:44 am #302501AidenXJeffreyParticipantI mentioned this in another post, but I don’t think Marian’s dead because they did ONE thing that is against the laws of magic. They killed her with magic and you can’t kill with magic and they really need to clean that up and stop doing that because they also did this in Wonderland in the episode, Trust Me where Jafar turns Ana’s subjects into piles of ash with the wave of his hand, and for the plot to be to break the laws of magic really aggravated me because of the fact that the laws were broken in the second episode because of shoddy writing. Also, I like Marian and I like the conflict of she being there, but I don’t think her story’s over because of the simple fact that she actually faked her own death. If you remember back in season three, Robin mentioned that she died on one of his jobs, but when Emma and Hook went back in time, we clearly saw that she died (or was supposed to die) by the hand of Regina/Evil Queen, so she ain’t so innocent as we think. There’s still a story to be told there and I really want that story to be told because it could be earth shattering if they allow it to be instead of just continually adding unanswered questions. Let’s focus on the questions that have come about since season one until now and answer them instead of adding new things that are completely irrelevant and are making the whole series, plot and universe even more confusing than it is. Sorry for the tangent, but it had to be said, or typed, whatever lol. I’m glad to see Zelena/Rebecca Mader because she’s an excellent talent, but this was just a mess and a half. Let’s clean this up, folks.

This is either a law of magic they NEVER follow or a rule that only applies to Genies. We’ve seen others use magic to kill before (like regina breaking that guys neck in 3×06 with magic) But I don’t think we have ever seen a genie kill. Except that one time when Lizard made a wish that resulted in her death (I don’t recall the specifics but yeah).

That’s not a law of magic on the show for everyone, just genies.
Crushing hearts is technically killing with magic.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 25, 2015 at 12:54 pm #302570obisgirlParticipantI said this back when this was a spoiler, but I’ll say it again. I do genuinely believe that they planned on this Marian=Zelena plot twist since the end of Season 3. Many fans thought just the way Zelena “died” last Season was off, and plenty did suspect Marian not being the real Marian even back then. If they wanted Zelena dead for good, why not just have Rumple crush her heart like he typically does to his other victims? I think the writers still wanted more to do with the character, and didn’t want to just end things there and then. Does that mean the execution wasn’t sloppy? Certainly not the case. It’s clear they had this Marian returning subplot as merely an obstacle for Outlaw Queen, but they always needed a way out.
You’re not wrong.
I found tweets!

@coalitiongirl @ev_soul the ideas for the second half of this season were discussed as far back as over a year ago.

@EthanDelmas @SwenLifeX it was planned.

Zelena was a plot device to fix the failed plot device. I think Adam and Eddy knew after the season three finale, many did not like what they were doing and thought of Zelena and bringing her back to fix the problem that they created in the finale.
I enjoyed Zelena’s scenes. Rebecca plays crazy so well. She doesn’t work as a 1/2 arc villain, but if I get bits and pieces of crazy Zelena now and then, honestly, I don’t mind. Rebecca and Zelena are awesome.
