3% is awesome!! Finally someone else who watches!
Well, in this case it’s actually cause rather than correlation! I saw you mention this show on another thread and that’s why I started it. š
As for the worldbuilding I agree and I hope the next season (which I think is confirmed) goes more in detail about the off shore and clear corruption and shadiness going on here. Iām very interested in how this world got to be the way it is and why.
This is exactly what I’m most interested in too. I was hoping we’d get more detail in S1 though – just to whet our curiosity for S2.
Does anyone watch the OA? I’ve heard it’s really good, but weird, and starts to taper off after a few eps.

I’ve started watching The Magicians — totallyĀ brainless fun, with occasionally decent, but equally often just plain terrible acting.

I’ve started, and it’s so far a mixed bag, thoughĀ mostly interesting. You need to have a pretty high tolerance for a very particular kind of New Age rhetoric, though, and to me it became grating after a while (didn’t help that myĀ husband kept butting in with sarcastic comments). Worth a whirl, though.

Ever read the books?
Like @kranen, most of my shows are returning sooner rather than later but in the meantime
–Did a total rewatch of the West Wing (probably my 5th time through the series)
–Shows that are already back like Sherlock, Sleepy Hollow, Grimm, and trying Emerald City
–Currently watching A Series of Unfortunate Events on Netflix (so good!)
–Tried to watch 3% and gotta sorta…bored? I may pick it back up.

-The Magicians (terrible)
-Shanara Chronicles (even worse)
-Stranger Things (pretty decent).
-War and Peace (also good).
-Emerald City (so-s0).
-Last Man on Earth (still funny).
Plan on watching season 4 of Sherlock, and the rest of the Vikings.

Ah, now it makes sense. Lev Grossman’s, right? I didn’t put 2 and 2 together — the books constantly pop up on my Amazon “you might like this too” feed. Are they worth it? With the show, I actually like the plot and some of the dialogues are witty, but oh ye gods, the acting is just cringeworthy and the editing is super weird and choppy. Syfy shows are kind of hit or miss, though — the Expanse works really well, though it’s also an adaptation from a book series. Also, why is it that shows about, at least at some level, grad school culture all seem to be written by high school students imagining life inĀ college? Anyway, maybe I’ll check out the books, after I’m done with Jemesin’s the 5th Season, which I’m really enjoying so far (have you read it?).

But…but… The Magicians…is great š® but I totallyĀ get the impressionĀ its one of those “the book is better” type things.Ā I liked it more near the end than I did in the beginning and cant wait for season 2. Anyone who has read the books (RG?) are they better? How accurate is the show to them? I keep meaning to go over to Barnes and Noble and get a copy but I usually get sidetracked by the Chili’s across the street >_>
Anyway, is anyone else watching the new “A Series Of Unfortunate Events” series on Netflix? Its pretty good. Although I think I prefer Jim Carrey’s Count Olaf to Neil Patrick Harris. He’s good. But eh.

The books are radically different both in plot and some themes. The TV show tends to stick to some tropes that Lev Grossman LOLs at and dismisses as part of his point. I think you’d like them.
Also, have not read 5th Season. I’ll check it out!

Yes I’ve watched. I’ve never seen the Jim Carey one in full but I think NPH is dynamite.

I think you’d find the 5th seasonĀ really interesting, for all the reasons š
Good to know that Grossman skirts around the low hangingĀ tropes. I’ll put itĀ on my reading list. Did you happen to read Naomi Novik’s Uprooted? Another book I thought you might enjoy, even though it’s pretty silly at times.
Butā¦butā¦ The Magiciansā¦is great
I don’t disagree, don’t get me wrong. It’s quiteĀ entertaining, and I totally binge watched through it over the holidays. It’s just one of those shows that sort of doesn’t apologize for its flaws and ridiculousness, and I can appreciate that.

I like that show; I’ve mostly watched the British version. Is that where the phrase “soggy bottoms” got started?
I’ve been watching A Place to Call Home, an Australian <del>soap opera</del> drama set in the 1950s. It’s about a strong-willed blond woman who comes to a small town and clashes with the town’s scheming matriarch. I’ve been playing “spot the parallels”. I thought Elizabeth was this show’s Regina, but then Regina arrived, and she’s even more like Regina (driven by passion and impulse, compared to Elizabeth’s Machiavellian stoicism), so I suppose Elizabeth is really Cora.
I’ve just finished watching the first episode of season 2, and yeah, I guessed right about that thing that happened last time.
