I kind of liked the idea that Elphaba’s wickedness was “manufactured” though, it fit so well with the theme and Oz talking about how back where he lives, they call it “History”. The musical was actually clever in ways the book fans don’t give it credit for. They both took different approaches.
I wouldn’t describe musical Elphaba as simply a “good girl” either.
