I’d love it to be Blue, too, because I think that would be more interesting from the POV of the show’s established mythologies. They just haven’t done ANY setup for it this season, which is why I’m skeptical.
As for Rumple…he’s been playing a high-stakes gambling game for a couple of centuries now, ever since he decided to get the dagger. There’s a bit of a thrill in it for him (and given his father’s career choices, it may be somewhat hereditary). He likes testing people’s limits, figuring them out, and playing them to his own profit. He LOVES having power, which is why his collection is so important to him, and he fears being without it. His showmanship is part of how he perpetuates his power.
He’s gambling with Belle and he knew it the moment he gave her a fake dagger. He was ready to call off the gamble before he saw a higher payoff just within his reach (the hat and whatever it does for him beyond offering his freedom). But from his perspective, he’s won a lot more gambles than he’s lost; he still believes he can win this one.

Maybe to free himself, Gold must free all the Villains trapped in the enchanted forest and other places. Maybe it has something to do with the magic balance of good and evil in storybrooke & enchanted forest. Too many heroes have happy endings which would tie into Regina’s quest. I just think Hook is a minor character in terms of power for it to be so simple as kill hook to free gold of the dagger. Gold could have killed hook at anytime.

Greg & Tamara’s goal was to rid our world of magic and we’ve met The Dragon. Perhaps Rumple wants to seek out these pockets of magic to add to his power. He’s a collector of magical objects. Apparently he has explored the FTL world extensively. If he can figure out how to keep his powers & memories when crossing the town line, our world has endless possibilities for him.
Or maybe he just wants to move out of SB for a change of scenery. I still get a kick out of A & E’s response to the SDCC interview involving 2 lies & 1 truth and they mentioned Rumple moving to San Franscico. :o)

How can we trust what Ingrid whispered as the final ingredient to what Rumple wants when it is revealed that she hasn’t really had the hat much longer than him? I know the show isn’t about consistency, but at the end of Smash the Mirror, we see Ingrid giving the Apprentice the hat back in exchange for the information about Emma. This implies that she only possessed the hat for a short time after Anna took it from Rumple and she took it from Anna. Yet, when she tempted Rumple with the deal, she said that she’s had the hat much longer than him and knows it better. This is inconsistent with the answer to her arriving in our world and giving up the hat. Which raises another questions about who the mansion really belongs to and why would the hat be there? Do you think it’s a trap for Rumple perhaps?
November 19, 2014 at 1:47 pm #290934KebParticipantShe also goes to the Land Without Magic in 1982. If all this happens within days of Anna meeting Belle, who hasn’t gone after Robin Hood yet, whose wife Marian hasn’t given birth yet therefore…
It should still be 1981.
More time HAS to pass somehow.

Good point. It might be that Ingrid simply told Rumple to kill the person who had known him before becoming the dark one because she just wants Hook out of way so she can have Emma to herself. Perhaps Ingrid is playing Rumple to get what she wants.

I think that mansion belongs to the sorcerer, which is why his hat was there.
Do you think it’s a trap for Rumple perhaps?
That could be. Maybe the sorcerer hates the dark one magic, which the Blue Fairy said didn’t belong in the Enchanted Forest. Maybe the Blue Fairy is the sorcerer (or sorceress) and secretly wants to entrap Rumple in that hat to be rid of him. That way the dark one curse cannot be perpetuated indefinitely.

But I’m pleased with my reading of the show at least 🙂
