I was listening to the OUAT fan podcast yesterday and Jeff and Colleen had a very blunt discussion about the season so far. With any second season of a new TV show, there’s going to be hits and misses. I watched Heroes and you either hated the second season or loved it.
I think we can all be thankful we haven’t seen episodes like Dreamy or The Fruit of the Poisonous Tree — yet and I hope we don’t. But one of the things Jeff and Colleen talked about was because there are new characters, you’re going to see less of the old ones. I think a lot of Evil Regals can agree with that.
Not every actor on this show can be featured in an episode. I’m curious how Oncers feel about this and the season thus far, in general? Like the way its going? Love it? Hate it?

I do agree with the point about seeing less of the old characters because of the new characters, however, It’s not so much of an issue so long as the new characters are introduced alongside an old character. For example, Hook was introduced in Rumple’s backstory, and has shared present day scenes with both Emma and Cora. I like the inclusion of his character and enjoy seeing him on screen because he feels part of an old character’s story. I didn’t like the introduction of Mulan or Aurora because they had no link to the old characters that we know and love. Their scenes in Broken didn’t interest me because I didn’t care for them, all they were doing were taking time away from my favourite characters. I actually like them a bit more now since they’ve been in scenes with Emma and Snow because they now feel part of Emma’s and Snow’s story.
I’m not keen on a Mulan or Aurora centred episode, at least while they remain in fairytale land, because I still don’t care about them enough outside of Emma’s and Snow’s story arc.
All magic comes with a price!

The show feels smaller now that everybody except Sneezy knows what’s going on. Also, for me, stories set in the other realms work best as support for the main plot in Storybrooke, and even though I still enjoy this season’s fairy tale land quest, I wish they’d speed things up and get on with it.

I’ll admit, it took me a couple of weeks to warm up to Aurora, but her volunteering to climb the beanstalk with Hook because she wanted everyone else to be happy if she failed was incredibly brave. I loved the Rumpel episode in particular because we saw more peasant!Rumpel and it was just generally gorgeous and emotional. And I love how much Cora’s becoming a major villain – it leaves room for Regina and Rumpel to continue on their redemption arcs without losing antagonists. Plus she was in the last season, so it doesn’t feel sudden.
November 10, 2012 at 9:03 pm #160223NobodyParticipantI love it. I love how the new characters are woven in the old’s back stories with the exception of Mulan and Aurora (so far). I was expecting a change in format this season so that’s fine with me. I watched Lost obsessively and they always tweaked the format each season…kept it interesting.

Hiro was in Japan far too long (even for a short season). But the difference is when we see Emma and Snow in FT world, nothing is wasted.
It’s not all dialogue. Stuff happens.
Like climbing up a beanstalk, facing off against a giant ogre, Emma and Snow bonding. I know they’ll get back to Storybrooke eventually but I like the pace so far. If they were to get back next episode, I would be like “What?” That doesn’t make any sense.
I see Aurora evolving as character from the premiere episode. She was a girl then, all lovey dovey with Phillip, not really exposed to the real world. It was very brave of her to step up and offer to go up the beanstalk even though she wasn’t really the proper candidate to do so.
But after not seeing Regina for awhile since episode 2, she did get her own episode again (The Doctor), which basically picked up the storyline in FT world (her training with Rumpelstiltskin).
I’d say over all, I’m okay with the pace of the season. It can only get better as we go along.

I agree with the others who have posted, as long as new characters are somehow tied in to already established character’s stories, then that works rather well, just like Hook or Frankenstein. I mean just imagine how odd it would’ve been to see Dr Whale in a castle in the b&w world all of a sudden.
But with Aurora and Mulan and whatever the name was of the prince, I didn’t find them interesting.
I love the Regina episodes so far, but I don’t like that she’s not even present in two and just had one line in another. Then again, I’m sure those who has others as favorites don’t like the Regina episodes.
Season one felt like they had a little bit of everyone, kinda like Lost in the beginning of it, but now season two feels more like some episodes will solely focus on certain characters.
I guess if I ever do a rewatch I know which ones to skip then 😆November 12, 2012 at 12:18 am #160324nonnieParticipant@Gaultheria wrote:

I think they will be showing Snow & Emma will be back in a couple more shows…. UNLESS they have Cora and Hook masquerade as Snow and Emma…. Saw spoiler pics of reunion…. a hot theory on the internet.
November 12, 2012 at 12:32 am #160325nonnieParticipantI must LIKE/ LOVE the show…. I track spoilers / listen to allllllll the pod-casts …. AND chase the family away when I am watching the show… (THEY TALK TO MUCH OVER THE DIALOGUE.) I make sure dinner is served at eaten before 7:30pm. I even watch Am Videos so I do not miss the beginning of the show.
Yep! I must like / love the show…. I also have a simple rule ….. I DO NOT WATCH SHOWS I DO NOT LIKE…. not enough time in this life time to waste.
