Another positive thread. Now naturally there are episodes we don’t like, many which share a polarizing reception. What I would like to focus on are what episodes you actually found more enjoyable despite negative reception. In fact, you may go as far as to say these episodes are underrated. Since this is a positive thread, I would kindly like to ask not to respond with reasons for not liking the episodes other posters mention in this thread, as that is not what this topic is about. We have had threads for expressing dislikes about every episode in the past.
I’ll start off by talking about “Dreamy.” During my initial watch I thought the episode was kinda whatever, but upon re-watch I’ve grown more of an appreciation for it. It’s actually a very nice standalone episode for Grumpy, and I was a fan of the Leroy and Mary Margaret team-up. I’ve even grown to appreciate the flashback, which might be off putting because of things like dwarfs hatching from eggs, but if you look past that it’s harmless fun. Amy Acker is also fun as Nova/Astrid. Another reason people aren’t crazy about this episode is because it comes off as filler, but as I said this changes when you review the episode on it’s own.

Two spring to mind right away
1) Lacey (2×19)–I remember a lot of people thinking that this episode felt like filler and didn’t advance the Home Office Story as much as it should, but I have a special place in my heart for this one. There’s something endearing about Rumple trying to get back the love of his life with wine and dinner and flattery. It has dark undertones which I thought were compelling for both Rumple and Belle/Lacey.
2) Nasty Habits (3×4)–another episode that I remember people mostly thinking was filler but I *adore* this episode. My two favorite guys working together to save their family; an interesting flashback, and a really successful B-plot (Emma in the Bae-Cave) It was my favorite episode of S3.

You know…Dreamy really improves on re-watches. It’s a lot of silly but it also has a lot of heart. I love the moment where Leroy causes the blackout in order to sell the candles. It’s perfectly in line with who Grumpy is: he takes somewhat drastic measures but his heart is in the right place.

True North is the one that springs to my mind for me. I remember most people didnt enjoy it very much, but for some reason I just really enjoy that episode, maybe it’s the little insights its gives into Emma’s character I dont know, it always just tickled my fancy 🙂

I think True North, Lacey, and RedHanded were also good.

The one I’m going to add to this list is Tiny. That one got a lot of hate for being filler, having bad special effects, etc.
But in the midst of almost too much drama, it was the rare episode where someone found a new home and family–a brief happy ending–and where the heroes actually did some genuine heroing. Anton was a fun character and I’d love to see him come back in the future if they come up with a good reason.

Count me in as someone who enjoyed “Tiny” a lot more than the general consensus seemed to. Anton is a sweet and likable character, we got to see the dark side of David’s twin Prince James, and let’s not forget the great stuff with Rumple at the airport. Seeing Rumple struggle with airport security was fantastic, and that scene with him going through angst in the restroom is such a great dramatic moment for the series.

I remember everyone hating Dreamy, but I loved it. (glad to see you side with me, Keb!)
It never occurred to me that Grumpy might have a backstory. The Dwarves sometimes function more as props for the main characters, so seeing Grumpy’s origins meant a lot to me. Grumpy is by far the best known dwarf, and it was exciting to see what makes him different. I loved that he wasn’t always Grumpy.
Really, Grumpy’s story is one of the more tragic ones. If villains can have their happy endings, then I think Grumpy deserves his. Obviously, this dwarf can love, and while I think the show has gone in a different direction since Grumpy/Dreamy’s original thread was written into the show, I still want the events of Dreamy (mostly concerning the blue fairy) to be acknowledged and explained.

But looking back, we learned a lot about Emma, about her feelings of being an orphan, and even about the identity of Henry’s father. We also were first introduced to August in that episode, one of the greatest mysteries of season one. It was actually a good episode, with a lot of positive messages about family always finding each other, as represented by the father of Hansel and Gretel finding and embracing his children.

Oh yes! I loved Dreamy! Nova was so adorkable and I am still waiting for her and Grumpy to reunite! 😀
