I have to agree that I like the middle ground they’ve found. I feel there is a touch of the older versions of the stories mixed in with a bit of Disney’s versions. Like someone else said…the original tale of Little Mermaid is far different than the Disney one. As much as i LOVE Disney and their version of the Little Mermaid…the original story made me want to cry. And crying is NOT always bad …a sad ending is not always bad. It has a bigger impact sometimes. I often wonder how much more….even more beautiful Disney’s Little Mermaid would have been had they done it like the original. BUT, that being said, it was one of my favorite movies growing up. I know one thing….they better make Peter Pan darker if they do it. The original novel and play are far far more dark than Disney depicted the story. Again, I liked Disney’s but that one doesn’t even remotely come close to the awesomeness that is the original. So I’m glad they’ve been taking this in between stance…hopefully it will stick with all these stories.
Maybe it’s just because I didn’t grew up with Disney movies, but with the theme park (Efteling) versions of the stories (that are the original stories, with a better ending).
It’s not that I want every story to end up sad, I really do like happy endings, maybe it’s just that the Disney movies are almost the same stories, with other characters: Snow White was singing and the prince heard her and he came to her, the same at the beginning of the movie of Sleeping Beauty.
I wonder if they will kill anyone of the big five princesses. I still think that Belle won’t make it. I would be surprised if she makes it through the next season. That seems like a big difference to Disney. Should be interesting.
I re-watched Sleeping Beauty the other day and must say that OUaT Prince Charming is very much like Prince Philip (Phillip/Philipp however it’s written). Kinda makes me doubt if we’re ever gonna see that tale played out. I’d just love to see Maleficent again. She’s such a great villain in the film and seem intriguing in OUaT.
I guess with magic in Sb, we can expect some darkness …
In a lot of ways they did the story of Sleeping Beauty this season. With Emma playing the prince and Henry sleeping beauty. There were a lot of similarities.
