The Michael Raymond-James Appreciation thread.
Subject to many revisions as we learn actual information about his ONCE character.
Right now – fangirling and theories HIGHLY encouraged. Let us love this amazing actor and sigh as we watch his first line, “What I Really Want Is You” in the Canadian Promo over and over again.
Watched Terriers in anticipation of him joining the cast and decided he may have the best facial expressions of all time! At least the most endearing! 😀

Cool thread! I haven’t seen MRJ in anything else, but I’m really excited to see his character on OUAT. From what I’ve heard from other fans, he’s a fantastic actor. 😀
I’d really love for him to be the White Rabbit, but I think Peter Pan is more likely. He’s also gotta be Henry’s father, I think if he’s not that’ll be the biggest surprise of the show so far.
Also I feel like I’m the only one who looks at/hears this guy and thinks “…hrm.” d: Gimme more yummy August any day.
I kind of get where your coming from Mellie – didn’t think he was the hottest guy to the join the show when I heard about him being cast. But I’ve become pretty protective over time. He really does have a swagger and personality that radiates awesome for me.
I think the best way to describe it, using his Terrier character ‘Britt’, is that MRJ is the full package: personality, looks, swagger, etc. He really makes me sympathize with his characters.
He seems to be getting a lot of hate on other sites, seen him referred to as ‘butt-ugly’ and ‘dog-faced’ since Sunday. Again- completely over protective of him now! I don’t know what is wrong with these people but I’m pretty confident some of them will be swayed come Sunday – after they see him in action. 😀
Also, updated the poll and lost everything. Sorry to anyone who voted earlier- first poll I’ve run on the site and didn’t think I’d lose everything by adding another option.

I’m in a similar boat. MJR certainly isn’t a fugmo by any stretch of the imagination and I’m looking forward to seeing what he’ll bring to the show, but Eion is my #1 Once crush, so MJR’s got himself some serious competition for my affections. 😉
Anyway, MRJ is definitely Henry’s father, highly likely Bae, and I’m hoping for a little Peter Pan thrown into the mix as well. I suspect we’ll only get the first of those personas confirmed in “Tallahassee” though.

I love MRJ, and I miss him on my TV. And despite all the skepticism, I think the Once fandom will be pleasantly surprised with his casting. He takes his roles very seriously – I heard he obsessively rehearses his lines and stuff – which reminds me of Robert Carlyle, actually. 😉
I adore Eion Bailey too – but the great part of having an ensemble cast is that you can have multiple crushes, right?

I agree with Lil’Red. Not the most attractive man on the show but he has a certain intensity about him. Same as Robert Carlyle. It’s the sexual intensity that makes the ladies melt. Humma!Humma!

Well, with that sneak peek I’m glad that the general consensus has shifted from:
“He’s not as hot as ________” to —-> “I think I’m going to like him.”
I suppose that’s what great acting and great writing can do! 😆 Although I had no doubt that MRJ could convert some naysayers with 1 minute of speaking. I think there’s something special about MRJ’s acting that just makes his characters feel less staged and more…genuine. Something like that. I’m not a drama expert, but I sure like having him on my TV!
Now let’s see if I can still love his Once character after he inevitably breaks Emma’s heart on Sunday.
Bring it on, writers!
