/ I told myself that even if Henry’s father wasn’t Bae, I still wanted Emma to get back together with him, mainly because I was attracted to the idea of Henry benign the product of true live and what that could mean for the show.
It’s nice to see that i’m not the only one who thinks they out did Rumbelle. I just think there is something more innocent in SwanThief. Neal and Emma’s relationship was about them loving someone completely for pretty much the first time and they loved each other for who they were. Emma’s reaction to the watches was more about the trouble it would cause, rather then the fact that he did the ‘wrong’ thing.
Rumbelle, on the other hand, was about loving the person burred deep–the person Rumple could be if he let himself. And that’s the thing, he wouldn’t let himself. He had too much to lose by doing so. It’s a lot more layered and a lot less innocent. I’m not saying that Belle shouldn’t try and change him (that man doesn’t just have issues or subscriptions, he’s got the whole publishing house) but she shouldn’t have to.
@Elle, I’m glad you wouldn’t mind. I mean really, can you image Robert and MRJ in a scene together?…Especially if it was the big reunion/confrontation? 😮EPIC.

Robert and MRJ would be great! Seriously, this show has some of the best cast on television. 🙂 I’ve liked MRJ since True Blood–a lot of people thought he would be horrible and went on because they thought he was unattractive. I don’t see how he unattractive, but to each their own. 🙂
Whether or not he is Baelfire, I want him and Emma to be together. I am a bit more supportive of the idea simply from some of the clues in this episode, and how similar he does seem a bit to Rumpelstiltskin in the way how he and Emma met–his little comment to the name and how much he looks like Rumpelstiltskin.
I really do love Belle and Rumpelstiltskin together, I just think they are a bit overated. I know this is an unpopular opinion considering how popular they are and all. 🙂 I mostly go after Rumpelstiltskin because he keeps using the same excues–I am a coward. Yet he makes no attempt to change.
But I mostly go for Emma and Neal simply for how they interected–it was on such a natural way. They loved each other for who they were–I am sure they had their moments when they argued, but they were accepting of one another, and protected one another.
November 21, 2012 at 5:02 am #161497lilredParticipantEddy: It was funny because right before we shoot this scene we sat down with Michael Raymond-James (Neal) and he brought up this scene and he was like “No! There’s no way I’m letting her do this! There’s absolutely no way I would let her do this!” and we said: “Right! Exactly.” That’s why she’ll have to earn it in the scene so when Jennifer Morrison (Emma) says ‘I love you’ and then he says that line…he realized in that moment, like that’s what so great about these two actors, is she really convinces him and wraps him up. He, in the previous scene, wrapped her up in his dream. And in this one she’s basically saying to him: ‘I can do this. You have to believe in me.’ And he does.
They managed to convince fans, too! I wanted Swanfire since I started in the fandom – and now that we have it (delusional? YES!) it’s transcended all other pairings. Maybe I got lucky that no other Swan ships floated my boat but this has become my OTP…in their very limited screen time! 😀
Both actors deserve praise for making a compelling love story in a limited amount of time but I especially love that MRJ has already gotten so in character that he was appalled that Neal would put Emma in harms way. Just adore what that says about the actor and character.
On a semi-related note, I’m reading through cinnamonhummingbirds transcribed Eddy/Adam podcast and I’m getting the picture that these guys may ship Emma/’Neal’ more than any of us.
I’m not sure if these have been posted earlier somewhere but ignore if it’s repetitive: just think it’d be horrible if someone missed these quotes who loves MRJ, ‘Neal’, and Emma/’Neal’. All transcribed by cinnamonhummingbird who I am lightly stalking at this point… 😯
Eddy: I think what’s great is that you realize how much he loves her. And that he is willing to give up on the dream of “Tallahassee” because if he at any point thought he would risk her life. It’s not worth that to him. And for us, you know, when Emma blurts out and says ‘I love you’ …that was the first time she has ever said that to anybody.
[It is Emma though who hashes up the plan to retrieve the watches from the locker]
Eddy: Yeah, because…you know they’re holding onto that dream of Tallahassee! They’re holding on to it. Emma, as we said, in that scene it’s the first time she has ever said to anybody in her life ‘I love you’. She doesn’t want to give up without a fight.
[Neal says to her: ‘You wanna steal the watches to help me get away with stealing the watches…’. That was quite insightful.]
Adam: He’s…you know…like Emma he’s a guy who got issues with love. They’ve both been looking for it and he’s realizing she really loves him. And is realizing how far she’ll go for him. And it touches him. And it makes him bet on the chance that maybe they can get this crazy dream of going to “Tallahassee” and have a happy life together.
Eddy: It’s very hard to find someone you truly love and when you do it’s very hard to let go, even if it’s for their own good. And I think he [Neal] is clinging on a sense of: ‘Maybe someday we can be together. Maybe something will change.’ And I think that’s what makes it so honest.
[We also find out who Henry’s father is and it’s awful that she’s alone and pregnant in jail. It seems like there will be a really long road for her.]
Eddy: I think there will be a really long road for him. To try and get her to understand what he did and the only person that can let her know is August right now is in the wind and is completely wooden (Really writers? The bed was empty last time Gepetto checked…).
[She did seem to have a little glimmer of hope when she looked at the keychain. She realized that that was from Neal.]
Eddy: I’m not sure if you could say…I like that you said it’s ‘glimmer of hope’ I think it’s an interpretation…for me there was a sense of, there was no way to contact him and we understand in that moment what she was really thinking about which was the child. I loved that, because that’s when she first learned about Henry. And I think what’s also interesting is if you look at that keychain and you go back and look at all the episodes of Emma you’ll realize as much as she says she’s over that guy and she doesn’t like him…for some reason she wears it around her neck.
Adam: And as we learned last season she spent a lot of time in Tallahassee, so…after she got out it’s safe to say she went there. And she was probably looking for him.
Eddy: What Adam was referring to was last year in episode 1×04 where Regina sits down at Granny’s where Emma is drinking cocoa and says: ‘You move around a lot, the only place you’ve ever stayed was Tallahassee. What did you like so much about it?’ and Emma gives her a snarky response. It’s fun now a year later to be able to say ‘AHA! It was about Neal.’

You said it in one, dearie… 😆 .
I haven’t seen True Blood, but I did watch Terriers to get a feel for how he was as an actoer. Must say great show.
And yes, the show was loaded with hints. Have you seen this thread: https://oncepodcast.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=2004
@ lil’red, yes, cinnamonhummingbird is awesome. Have you seen her collection of SwanThief fanvids on Tumblar. My feels can’t take it!!

It’s weird since like you I do love them together, but was kind of bored with them to start this season. It is a very repetitive dynamic and I was pretty excited to see them take a few steps back and actually have casual dates. First time I see them at the diner together having a hamburger, the Rumbelle senses will probably be back.
November 21, 2012 at 2:32 pm #161527naomiParticipantAbout Rumbelle, I think the the ship hasn’t been treated as well as it could have been, by the writers. So in a heartbeat they went from “That’s the reason why I have to stay” to “You don’t get to decide what I want. I do.” I mean, HUH?
I totally get that the writers have to create tension in all the ships – they can’t just write Happily Ever Afters too early, otherwise there would be no show. 😆 But I think with Rumbelle their fight/separation was really sudden…at least it felt sudden on screen. I think one or two MORE scenes – like Rumple tearing down Belle’s posters of her father…or Belle finding out what Rumple did to Moe last season – would have made their conflict a lot more understandable. But instead, they had Rumple spinning gold and Belle leaving him.
BUT that’s off topic. I think we have to give a lot of credit to Jane Espenson for some of the show’s great ships, because she wrote/co-wrote “Skin Deep” and “Tallahassee”. I just hope that when other writers get a hold of Emma/Neal they think of creative ways to generate conflict in their relationship. I hope the “you abandoned me, you abandoned me, you abandoned me” doesn’t become the “you’re a coward, you’re a coward, you’re a coward” of the Emma/Neal ship, if you know what I mean. 😕
November 21, 2012 at 4:17 pm #161540elleParticipantBelle didn’t leave just because he was spinning gold. She left because he wasn’t honest. 🙂 He has never told her about why he needed magic and what he intends to do. He keeps her in the dark due to shame and trust issues, I think. She told him he needed courage to let him in–all she wanted was answers.
But I do agree the breakup happened a bit too quickly–I would have liked Belle to know about what happened to her father and why her posters didn’t work. That would have created a really interesting setting as to whether or not she can forgive him and move past it and all. Though I think that is mostly due to limited screen time–they only have about 45 minutes for a story.
November 21, 2012 at 6:45 pm #161578magickingdomParticipantFrom what I saw, it appeared that Belle left Mr. Gold because he wasn’t honest with her and was still practicing magic behind her back. So, she felt the need to take a break from him. But like Elle just stated, the main reason why the break up came off as a little sudden was because of the lack of screentime. There’s so many characters and storylines on the show that some storylines are going to suffer from a lack of screentime. But I’m not too worried. The way Belle and Gold left off in “The Crocodile” made it seem like they would eventually get back together. Probably by the end of the season. 😉
PHEW! Ok, now in regards to Neal and Emma, I hope Jane continues to write for them. She has a good track record with OUAT and she really knows how to write good romance. It’s no coincidence that my two favorite ships were created by her. 😀
November 21, 2012 at 7:47 pm #161609naomiParticipantOh, for sure! Sorry – I should have been more clear. Obviously Belle was mad at him because he still didn’t trust her enough to be honest. It was all about honesty. But just seemed — in that one, particular episode — that all he did was spin gold, before she left him. In short, it was rushed. I think “the Crocodile” would have been much more effective over two episodes, actually. But maybe that’s just the Rumbelle fan in me talking.
One thing’s for sure. I can’t wait to see MRJ and Belle together. If Neal is Bae, I think they’ll either click immediately, or be adorably wary of each other. 😀
November 21, 2012 at 8:27 pm #161621elleParticipantI think that is the problem with many of the episodes. The story is great, but always rushed. The writers try to fit too much in one episode, and it ends up not feeling as effective as it could have been had they stretched it out to two or three episodes. 🙂
This episode is one of my favorites given that much time went to Neal and Emma, both of whom were just wonderful together. They both are accepting of one another, and both kept each other alive and safe, while still maintaining a playfulness with each other.
The other couples are great, but these two just had a natural, loving, playful feeling. The angst between them wasn’t about them themselves–it was about Emma’s role in the curse. I think that is why I love them and think about them a bit more than of Belle and Rumpelstiltskin. They both of people that are damaged and want love, and when they find that love, they hold onto it. 🙂
