After Regina took back Henry’s heart and weakened Pan, I’m think Pan is somehow defenseless to a Mother’s love.
My theory: Regina is more sure of herself as a mother than Emma and Snow combined. While everyone else is powerless in Pan’s presence, Regina seems to make Pan powerless with her presence.
Regina is the only person Pan hasn’t confronted yet. 9 episodes on Neverland, an Island, and those characters never once found themselves alone to talk to each other. Pan visited almost everyone but her. Regina is a rock that Pan can’t seem to budge.
I’m thinking a mother’s love is a key weakness for Pan. I sense a backstory with mommy-issues coming.
[adrotate group="5"]December 4, 2013 at 2:31 pm #227971RumplesGirlKeymasterThat’s a really interesting theory and it does make sense. Even in the traditional story/movies about Peter Pan, it’s the idea of a mother (Wendy) which is a source of weakness for Pan. And I agree that Regina is more of her mothering capabilities than either Snow or Emma. Regina has been a mother non-stop for 11 years. Emma is just now learning how to be a mom and the same with Snow.
I have wondered why Pan didn’t go after Regina and at the time I assumed it was because Regina is a tougher nut to crack. She has her flaws and insecurities but they aren’t as close to the surface. And like we saw in 309, she doesn’t regret her actions because they got her Henry. So Peter has stayed away from Regina because he cannot emotionally manipulate her like he can Emma.
However, I’m not sure if we are going to get a backstory on MalcolmPan and his mother-issues. While I have no doubt that MalcolmPan does have family issues, A and E seem to be trying to sell Malcolm as a selfish wicked man who “represents the worst in all of us” (quote from recent spoiler article). I don’t see them giving him a backstory of how he got to be like that because it takes away from how vile he is.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"December 4, 2013 at 3:25 pm #227983PriceofMagicParticipantI think what Pan fears most is dying alone and unloved. Hence why he collects lost boys. Pan seems to want to be a hero in their eyes.
I don’t think a mother’s love is necessarily Pan’s weakness since Emma loved Henry and Pan still went after her. I think it’s a protective mother which Pan doesn’t know how to handle. He specialises in abandonment and feeling unwanted, something which both Emma and Rumple (the two people Pan went after the most) have major issues with. Regina has never abandoned Henry, so Pan can’t play that against her. Regina constantly kept her eye on the prize of saving Henry whilst everybody else got caught up with their own problems.
Henry is Regina’s everything, she has nobody else to care for or who cares for her. So it’s the desire to protect the one thing good in her life that made Regina an unstoppable force in Neverland.

You had me until the unloved. I think he fears dying and dying alone. I don’t think he cares if the Lost Boys love him or not, so long as they play his game.
I do think he finds Regina to be a bit beyond him in terms of “plaything.” She’s not as easy to manipulate as Emma because, say what you want about Regina, she’s very sure of who she is. She IS a mother, she never needed to fight that part of her identity. Emma struggled with it now for 2 seasons.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"December 5, 2013 at 3:01 am #228108PheeParticipantI think Pan didn’t really bother with Regina because he didn’t consider her that much of a threat. Pan’s a guy who gave up his own flesh and blood child, so how could he possibly comprehend that someone could be a parent with unconditional love for a child they’re not blood related to. So that moment when Regina used her unconditional love for Henry to break free of the tree and put some serious smack down on Pan, he was completely unprepared for her. And I think now that he’s in Henry’s body, he’ll be out for some revenge against mummy dearest.
