In the Manhattan flashback, one of the soldiers said something along the lines of “When the ogres rip you limb from limb, pray that they are quick”. I doubt the ogres would suddenly be considerate just because they are faced with a woman.

Hmm… We don’t know much about ogres. They can be violent, but they’re probably fighting for the survival of their species; creatures that big have a perilous position in the food web, especially when humans start changing the landscape.

I disagree. The point of propaganda is to inspire people to fight for your cause not risk scaring them away. Also don’t forget that the soldiers that were maimed but alive were considered the “lucky ones” as it meant they got to be sent home alive when the reality for the rest was injury or death at the hands of the ogres.
Also, ogres eat humans. It’s one of their defining characteristics in folklore. It possible that the humans got better at defending themselves which forced the ogres to the brink of starvation which kick started the ogre wars.
The point still stands. Belle’s mom was most likely ripped apart limb from limb.

Keeper of FelixI wonder if we’re ever going to find out what happened to Belle’s mother. Not even Belle knows the truth. As mentioned in the chat by MP, might Belle’s mother have been one of the many Authors that August spoke of in 4×16? She was very intent on saving the books in her library during the war, for which she died. Was she just a bookworm, or do you think she could’ve been an Author? We still don’t know how the many empty books ended up in the Sorcerer’s mansion. What if the current day Author manipulated events such that there was a Second Ogres war and Colette died, which gave him the opportunity to take her title as Author. Perhaps the Sorcerer then simply took the books that had been in Colette’s collection after the Apprentice trapped the current author in Henry’s book.
Look at the books Colette was trying to save. They look a lot like Henry’s book and the blank books in the Sorcerer’s mansion.
