I’ve been part of fan groups for several of my other passions, but I’ve really enjoyed all of you guys here. I feel more a part of this group, and it’s so fun to share an obsession. Since I only work part time and am frequently home by myself while my husband is at work, there are days when these boards are the only social interaction I get. (It’s ok- I’m mostly an introvert. 🙂 ) So I thank you all for that. I like you guys!
Once Upon a Time was practically tailor made for me with it’s mash up of Disney inspired fairytales- romance, magic, happily every after. I’ve always been a self-described Disney fanatic, so this was just a natural extension of that. It’s the ultimate escapism from the routine of daily life.
Both this group and the show itself help snap me out of my frequent bouts of depression- if I’m focused on the show, I’m not focusing on negative thoughts about myself. It’s an instant pick me up.
It’s also made me more ditzy because I keep spacing out to daydream about it- ha!

As you’re a Disney fanatic, have you ever been on the Disboards, Angiebelle? Might be something to do while the hiatus slows down the activity. I’ve only lurked there when planning trips to Disneyland/Disneyworld. I remember seeing threads on costumes and things like that. Not sure how much discussion there is outside of trips, but it can be fun to read about people’s experiences (more fun when I’m anticipating a trip myself!) There was a thread on fancy disney cakes people ordered in the parks that was pretty neat.

I have to say, of all the boards I’ve seen on the web about Once Upon A Time, this one is filled with the most kind, clever, decent, mature, intelligent people. It has been refreshing to see the conversations about so many different theories and passions and opinions be discussed in such a way.
I don’t have to live in fear of getting my head chewed off for any dumb theory I may have, and want to share, and at the opposite end, the maturity level when someone disagrees with another poster is quite above every other board I have visited. Respect for one another seems to be the norm.I remember when I first started googling stuff about OUAT, (during my Marathon in November and again in January) I would get links to this board. Oh what I world that opened up to me!! 😆
I want to thank Daniel for facilitating these boards in the way he does. Really it all comes from the top down, and his character I think is revealed in the culture of the board. So thank you Daniel! For the podcast, for everything, and for setting the bar for a respectful, fun forum. 🙂

Discovering this show in January has made a huge difference in my outlook! I think it”s the message of hope. We have a son that has basically walked away from our family so I am in the need for hope on a daily basis, in addition to my hope in the Lord that he will come back to us. 🙂 This show, the podcasts and these forums help me to focus on what is good about people. You are all amazing!

I’ll pray for your son to come back. My heart goes out to you. My family has a brother in a very similar situation.
This board has wonderful people.
Angiebelle: Great post!
I don’t believe in accidents and when God brings people together, I think He does it for a reason. Let’s keep this board active during the summer hiatus.
April 5, 2013 at 5:09 pm #184588angiebelleParticipantYes, I’m quite familiar with the Disboards! I have been a member there since I was about 17, and was even a minor celebrity during my WDW college program days because I would post journals about my experience. Nowadays, I mostly just lurk…I had a really bad experience there about 10 years ago. I tend to share too much and got myself in trouble. I made the mistake of posting something about how dumb some people are at the parks from the point of view of a castmember, and people took it personally and got up in arms…in fact, a few people even tried to get me fired! When I tried to defend myself, I only made it worse. I was suspended for about a month and a half while Disney tried to decide what to do with me. Ultimately, I kept my job, but the experience made me far more leery. I found out about a parallel board that seems to exist only to make fun of the Disboards- they had a 10 page thread going basically ripping me apart. It was devastating.
What I like about the Oncepodcast forums is that it is a much more intimate community- the Disboards are just so overwhelmingly huge that you either get lost or you get harshly judged. I do still enjoy going there from time to time to read stuff, but I hardly ever post anymore. I agree that these boards are the best OuaT boards I’ve come across- the most intelligent, the most rational…people get pretty crazy on some of the others!

^This.
I wish I had been thoughtful enough to say all that because I agree 100%.
AngieBelle–Yikes 😳 about the Disboards, I had no idea! I am so sorry, if I had known, I would never have mentioned it. I only came across it three years or so ago, and had no idea it could be so hostile. Well, I won’t be unlurking there any time soon!

Oh, no worries! That was a long time ago. And they aren’t all bad- I’ve met a lot of really cool people through there as well. It can still be a fun place to be- you just have to be careful. Part of it was my own fault for saying too much.
So sorry about your son, LaurieAnne! How awful!
