I personally believe the actors hired for this season that are key characters still have a lot of life and story left in them, our writers too. Why create a show and give it such a storyline to end it after one season?
No. There is at least one more season if not two they can easily pull out. One thing I loved about this last episode was the number of characters that appeared, and I think we will see more of that at the end of this season — Regina, Rumpel/Mr. Gold, Emma, David/PCharming, MM/SW, David, August, Archie/Jiminy, Red, The Dwarves… I was trying to think who we didn’t see in this episode — the children from True North, Belle, Sydney, Dr. Whale. I think there are battles to be fought before the war is won/ or the Curse is broken:)
One battle is memory or remembering for the individuals involved; another is Emma following the proper legal form while trying to uncover the truth, and if she doesn’t what does that mean? Can Regina get her kicked out of Storybrooke, or imprison her like Belle? Regina has yet to confirm who Emma is, Emma has yet to believe the stories are true, David and MM have yet to remember who they are, and if they remember they could be committed to some asylum for their looney beliefs.
If the writers stick to their LOST roots and form (and I personally think it would be kind of cool this season) then I agree the opening scene in the pilot will be the ending scene in the finale. Maybe David and MM will remember who they are. If they do there will be a lot of issues with Emma next season since she is not quite the believer they could be – I mean what do you say to parents who say they put you in a magical tree in FTL so she would have her best chance ending up next to a freeway. Also, maybe remembering will put David back in a coma, maybe he won’t be able to handle it, who knows, he was unconcious when the curse was enacted; there are so many places these writers could take us. And if they stay true to LOST form someone will die in the finale that none of us will probably be happy about by the end — I’m thinking Archie or Ruby or Granny, some character we all like but isn’t particularly necessary for upcoming seasons (or can’t renew their contract). Maybe Ruby will save them all from something at the cost of her life.
There are spoilers already posted as to a few characters we know will show up in the finale as well as the title. There is also a very interesting theory by the writer Phee in the forum – Rumplestiltskin’s Agenda that poses the theory that Rumpel/ Mr. Gold is trying to get rid of all magic.
No, these writers are too seasoned to give us everything we want this season, they will just give us a taste to whet the appetite for next season, and why not, there are still so many fairytales they could incorporate – Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, Robinhood, Little Mermaid, those are just a few people have mentioned in the podcast and on the forums. It doesn’t take too much for them to create a “gamechanger” in the storyline, just like they did with August. The question for me really becomes how many seasons can they carry this out without losing the great writing and storyline, and I would love it if they could carry it out and have it all tie up into a neat little bow at the end with 85-90 percent of the questions answered in the end. Although I accepted the writers ending for LOST I never felt completely satisfied because there were too many questions they left unanswered. I hope they don’t do that here.

They could end with Snow and Charming getting married or they could even hold that out longer if they wanted.
And they could do another season the time between that in the curse. There is no reason that there can’t be years between the events of Charming kissing Snow at the castle and the curse being enacted. They could fit a lot in there if they want.

This has been my BIGGEST concern for OUAT. I absolutely loved LOST and followed it closely. But at the finale, I felt disappointed and honestly like I had wasted my time watching a show that never answered so many questions. So when I fell in love with this show, it was obviously a concern that large questions wouldn’t be answered and I would again feel cheated from the show. I hope this is not the case, and they perhaps learned from LOST.
As for where the finale is going for the season, I agree with many others in saying the full arc will be James kissing Snow in the glass coffin and awakening her. It makes perfect sense. The second season can focus on the time between the marriage and the curse (we know at least 9 months, but why not more?) Or it could focus on James getting his kingdom back. I feel something must happen to the king – as we know neither Regina or James’ father will allow either of our storybook favorites to rule a kingdom without a fight.

March 23, 2012 at 2:49 am #139506hjbauParticipantThey could have five years between the coffin scene and the curse if they want.

I have to say that I understand why Josh Dallas tweeted that he was totally shocked when he read the finale script (I think it was a tweet where he said that). I think this is going to be totally great and will make for a very interesting second season and definately sends the series in a direction I wasn’t necessarily expecting. This is just one of the many reasons I am so completely in love with this show. It has so many twists and turns and leaves me with my jaw hanging on the floor saying “No way!!” more times that I can count.
I have to say that I get the feeling that the cast also totally loves this show. I’m new to Twitter but from what I have heard from others, this cast is pretty unique in how much they share their every day antics with their fans on Twitter with pictures, etc. And they are pretty consistant in Tweeting that they are excited about where the show is going each episode. To me that says a lot about the show.

For some reason I always felt that after Charming kissed Snow in the coffin that they married immediately. I’ve never thought before about the possibility of time in between that. So yeah, there could be years in between for all we know. That would be cool, plus it would help keep the Snow/Charming stories fresh and new. That’s kind of why I had the opinion that the Snow/Charming stories were over because I didn’t think about time between the coffin and their marriage.
March 24, 2012 at 9:14 pm #139696nonnieParticipantI think they have enough material to write for the next 100 years and never make a dent in it….. folklore and fairy-tales are from every country on earth so they can continue forever. Even if they end the curse I am sure their will be another battle to be fought.
