I have to think that the last scene of Hook tossing the bean into the water and creating that whirlpool to Neverland, how did he know to get that specific bean or that it would lead to Neverland? I mean, he and his crew had the bean before they encountered Rumpelstiltskin and I don’t think it was mentioned that they got the bean from Smee.
I think Hook learned about the bean to Neverland from Cora (as The Queen of Hearts).

Went back to check, and yep, it was stated that they got it from Smee…
Milah: Wait. I have something you want.
Rumpelstiltskin: Well, I find that very difficult to believe.
(She pulls out Smee’s red hat.)
Rumpelstiltskin: Where did you get that?
Milah: You know who I took it from. I may not know what the Dark One wants with a magic bean, but I have it.
Then later, on the boat…
Milah: Fetch some water. And get me that prisoner below deck, along with the goods that he carried. Now!
Then there’s the bit where Rumple kills her, then Hook sticks the hook into him…
Rumpelstiltskin: Killing me’s going to take a lot more than that, dearie.
Hook: Even demons can be killed. I will find a way.
Rumpelstiltskin: Well, good luck living long enough.
Then the scene where Hook lets Smee join the crew…
Hook: Well, what if I was to tell you I was about to set sail to a land where none of us will ever grow old? Where I can discover how to get my revenge on Rumpelstiltskin.
Then he tosses the bean in the water and away they go.
All of that makes it seem like they didn’t know exactly what they had in that bean when they first got it, (and Smee), and that Hook didn’t have plans to go to Neverland until he needed to go to a timeless place so he could live long enough to defeat Rumple.
People in FTL had likely heard stories about Neverland, where no one ages, so I’d buy it if Hook knew about Neverland that way, especially considering his social circle would likely include people who have travelled a lot. And once he’d figured out what the bean was for, he probably just put 2 and 2 together, and decided to use it to go to Neverland.

I think that’s a good question. How did Hook know about Neverland?
If Cora turns out to be the QofHs, he couldn’t have heard about it from Cora. Cora would have only ended up in Wonderland close to 2 decades prior to the curse taking place. Hook & Rumples story took place close to 250 years prior to that.

Bae wished for a land without magic and Hook of Neverland. They were both quite clear about where they want to go. Hook might have known the bean magic works this way and he might have also heard about Neverland before.
But that’s just a theory, don’t think we’ll ever have a chance of finding it out since all the beans are gone now!… or are they? 😈December 3, 2012 at 5:23 am #163413maiqu20Participant@EvilQueen wrote:

Well my headcanon is that he’s a grown up Peter Pan so that’s how he knows about Neverland but if that doesn’t pan out I’m thinking that probably he grew up hearing about Neverland or the stories about it and when Rumple killed Milah he used the bean to get there because he WANTED to get to Neverland
December 3, 2012 at 5:48 am #163417zlfh4ParticipantI agree that the bean takes you where you want to go, but I kind of hope Bae will wind up being a grown up Peter Pan so I kind of wonder if that means that Bae could have gone somewhere else because when he fell into the portal he wanted to go somewhere else when he went in. not sure why he would want to go to neverland but who knows…

Plus, Hook had Smee, who certainly knew about magical beans being portals between realms. It’s possible Smee divulged off-camera to Hook that the Dark One needed the bean to travel to another world. Since I believe the bean simply goes where the traveler needs to go, Hook made a snap-decision that he’d keep the bean and travel to a world he’d heard of where people never age. That way Captain Hook could live long enough to figure out how to enact his revenge against Rumple.
There's a picture of Hook on a SB rooftopwith Smee, who is holding a cape that strangely resembles the cape Baelfire was wearing when he disappeared from the EF all those centuries ago. https://oncepodcast.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=2015&start=10#p27607
If Baelfire ended up as a lost boy in Neverland, it's possible Captain Hook figured he was Baelfire, based on that time Rumple saw Milha's and Rumple's young son in the tavern in 2×4. Hook probably then guessed that Baelfire going missing is what drives Rumpel. Kidnapping Baelfire and then making Rumple believe his son is long gone dead is surely the cruelest form of torment that Hook could inflict on his arch enemy.
