One thing I know: Rumple will find Neal, Rumple finding Be or Belle will instantly bring him *mostly* back to normal though he may have to keep up the act for most people.

March 16, 2014 at 10:29 pm #253376HappyEndingsSpectatorMy first theory was this:
Wicked Witch has Rumple, controlling him with the dagger. She forced Rumple to cast this new dark curse, using Neal’s heart. Ultimate revenge (especially if Rumple was her biological father). This would explain why Rumple seems to have gone crazy in Storybrooke. He killed his son.
I really hope this theory is wrong. I’m a SwanFire shipper personally. I hope this isn’t the case.
I hope he’s a flying monkey and Emma can break the curse.
Yea, I heard this theory too about Neal.
March 16, 2014 at 11:49 pm #253400PheeParticipantI’m thinking Zelena has Neal prisoner, but in a different place than Rumple. She has somehow erased some of Rumple’s memories or what happened with Pan did, so Rumple doesn’t know he has reunited with Bae already
Interesting idea. I just posted in another thread how part of her agenda might be to see that the relationship between Rumple and Neal remains broken, because of her own issues of being an abandoned child and not being able to reunite with her mother now.
I don’t think Neal’s a monkey. I think they want people to think that, but now that they’ve actually had other characters assuming that the same thing happened to Neal that happened to John, I think it’ll be too obvious if it’s actually the case. They’ve still got some other twist in store for the reveal of what happened to Neal.
I do think he’s more than likely the one who sent the message to Hook, which I think probably means that Zelena doesn’t have him captive, though I’d been suspecting she might for a little while now.

OMG I think you’re right!

March 17, 2014 at 12:18 am #253412JosephineParticipantOh, it is in Storybrooke, the hooded figure. You can see it reflected in Charming’s truck mirror.
But then at the end of the promo it looks like the figure is falling out of Rapunzel’s tower. I don’t know what the heck is going on.
Keeper of Rumplestiltskin's and Neal's spears and war paint and crystal ball.

"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 17, 2014 at 12:42 am #253429PheeParticipantI think the hooded figure at Rapunzel’s tower is different to the one in the SB woods. One at the tower isn’t wearing a belt and the one in SB looks like it’s got puffier sleeves. If Neal’s the one in the SB woods, I’d guess that he’s laying low until such time as he can help them track Zelena down, using info he has about her from having been onto her plan while they were all back in FTL. If Neal in the SB woods is still dressed in his FTL costume, that likely means he didn’t get to SB the same way everyone else did, and was exempt from the memory loss.

Yes there is also the curse angle –but if Rumple is Zelena’s father, then she might want to make Neal suffer just as she is making her half-sister suffer as he is her half-brother and again its jealousy. Might explain why she would bother having Walsh SEDUCE Emma. (to the extent a monkey can you know). It wasn’t just, keep her out of town, it was a step further in the approach where say brute force might have worked, like knock her over the head, drag her to SB and put her in a sleeping curse. Then again, logic on this show…who knows.
Neal might be the one who sent the note to Hook though, as August communicated with Neal that way, with a homing pigeon and notes tied to it. That would suggest wherever he is, perhaps he was able to have some freedom if it were him.
