I was curious about the white flowers shown in this episode so I did a little research. In all my scientific ways, I search for white drooped flower. After a lot of sorting through pictures, I found the Galanthus nivalis, more commonly known as the Snowdrop.
I stumbled across a website (link below) that says the snowdrop can be found in the biblical telling of Adam and Eve. Correct if I’m wrong please, but I believe the Queen’s name in this episode is Queen Eva.
http://www.projectbritain.com/calendar/February/snowdrops.htmlHans Christian Andersen has also wrote a poem about the snowdrop entiled “The Snowdrop”
http://www.hca.gilead.org.il/snowdrop.htmlIn the Wikipedia article about Snowdrops, I found this interesting fact:
It was suggested by Andreas Plaitakis and Roger Duvoisin in 1983 that the mysterious magical herb moly that appears in Homer’s Odyssey is actually snowdrop. An active substance in snowdrop is called galantamine, which, as anticholinesterase, could have acted as an antidote to Circe’s poisons.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SnowdropCould that mean that Snow could have cured her mother with the Snowdrop flowers??????

After all, Snow never talked to the real Blue Fairy, and she might have offered her a cure. Cora likely made up the whole “you can only use dark magic to prevent death” thing, and there was in fact an alternate solution that wouldn’t result in the death of another person. I mean, Rumple is poisoned too, and yet he is confident that magic can save him.

Symbolizes hope, a (new) beginning. But as well associated with death in some regions.
And there is some folktale, that the snow got its color from Snowdrop, that is why the snow and cold don’t harm it.
Interesting about Galantime as the possible antidote, didn’t know that so far. Snowdrop itself though is not advisable, particular it bulbs contains substances causing nausea.
Not sure if this flower could have done the trick (or if the writers thought of it), but I agree with ItachiIshtar. Cora told Snow for sure some crap, so likely there could have been a cure.
And I am very sure that this will raise some questions especially with those already mistrusting the Blue Fairy, the real one that is (yes, I am teasing you :P). Why didn’t she show up, why could Cora do this masquerade without the Blue Fairy noticing anything, or maybe she did knew something and Mother Superiors surprise was not authentic. Could the Blue Fairy have known of a cure for Eva? (yes, in the press release she was named Eva).
By the way, there is another flower of the same order as Galanthus, Scilla, another early Spring flower. Known in German also as Blausterne (transl. blue stars). Where I live we celebrate a Scilla festival every Spring, because there is a wonderful old cemetry now turned park full of Scilla siberica (Siberian Squill) here. Something for a fairy tale garden 😉
Okay, sorry, sidetracking.
If Galanthus could have worked as antidote to whatever Cora did to Eva – even more tragic the story.
¯\_(?????? ?)_/¯

Exactly. We have seen where MM wants to kill Cora and that her heart would turn dark if she did. What if finding there was a cure for her Mother’s poison (whether it be the flowers or not) really pushes her over the edge? As much as I hate to say it, I believe we are going to see an Evil Snow White before long. 😥
I think it would be pretty cool if they used the flowers to cure Rumple.
March 5, 2013 at 6:58 pm #177400MatthewPaulModeratorEvil Snow sounds a bit strong, but she will definitely drop her morals after taking so much crap. Remember the amnesia Snow from “Heart of Darkness” with a lust for wanting to kill Regina? It looks like she’ll be back, but this time for Cora! Cora did want to turn her heart black, therefore “Heart of Darkness.” Both that episode and the upcoming episode “The Miller’s Daughter” happen to be episode 16 of their respective Seasons, too! Coincidence? 😉
