I’m going to cast an opinion that goes against what a lot of people are saying here. Instead of talking about who I think will die, I’m going to talk about who I think won’t and why. Maybe I’m in denial, but I keep thinking about Adam saying this unmentionable spoiler has been pre-planned since the beginning of the season. I think Adam is being honest, too, since we know they did map out S3a very well. Neal’s official S3 slogan was “believe in second chances.” Well, where is Neal’s second chance? Some would argue that he got it with Rumple, but no, not really. Rumple sacrificed himself in 3×11 so that Neal could have another go at happiness, just not with him. And Neal point black said in 3×3 Emma and Henry are his second chance. It’s indisputably in the dialogue. That is why I think Neal will survive. It may be a close call, he may seemingly die, but he’ll ultimately survive. That is what I think. I don’t mean to spark a “shipping war” (save it for your own threads). I’m just saying why I think, from a story-driven perspective, it makes little sense that Neal’s death would’ve been planned when the writing suggests otherwise.

Yep, and the fact that that happened as recently as 311, having Rumple say, “you can have your happy ending,” I just can’t fathom how it would be a natural story progression for them to then turn around and kill Neal less than half a season later. Unless they plan to give the whole show the biggest gut punch ever, why would they have given Rumple that line of dialogue to set up hope for Neal’s future if they were planning to take away Neal’s whole life? Does not compute IMO. So if the death is for story reasons, (and I’m with those who believe that Adam’s telling the truth on that one), and they do end up killing Neal, that line of dialogue from Rumple was the cruelest misdirect ever, and I’d honestly be very surprised if Adam and Eddy screwed one of their few 100% original characters over like that.

A and E both have gone on record as stating this upcoming 3B is a season in and of itself. All those posters were about the Neverland arc. They have nothing to do with what is going on in season 3B. If they did they wouldn’t have used the Neverland backdrop for the posters.
All the posters told the arcs while they were in Neverland, even Neal. He got a second chance with his father and that was his ultimate storyline and the main focus of him in Neverland.
All the posters believe messages came true during the course of the 11 episode Neverland arc, in fact most of them were recurring themes for each character while they were in NVL.

Rumple never said that. Rumple’s direct quote is “You can have a chance at happiness, and that happiness is possible just not with me”. Possible does not mean a guarantee, same as saying it’s not a guarantee he would get a happy ending.

But the themes probably will still tie in, even if the plot changes course (which it is…we’re going to Oz). The themes weren’t just about plot….they’re about the characters themselves.
- Will Charming still fight for his family? Always!
- Will Snow White continue to believe in hope? She wouldn’t be Snow if she didn’t!
- Will Regina’s maternal love still be stronger than her dark heart? Yes; she’s a protective mama!
- Will Emma find her way back home to her family? Yes, she’ll find her parents again!
- Will Hook the pirate become a hero? Yes!
- Will Henry continue to believe in the impossible? Yes, he’s still the truest believer (albeit cursed).
- Will Rumple change his fate? Yes, he survives!
- Will Belle continue to find strength in the unlikeliest of places? I bet she will! Rumple told her she made him stronger in 3×11!
- Will Neal get his second chance? I think so!

All happy endings start with hope though, and we know Snow was speaking in the context of hope that Neal could still be alive (it was in episode 3×6).

Absolutely it’s just during this arc, season 3A the believe posters showed us the recurring themes for each character in NVL. I’m not sure that we can hold the “believe” posters to their themes after Neverland was complete.
Some people don’t view Hook as a hero still, despite Neverland. That was his theme in NVL, that was his story. Will it continue, yes but I’m not gonna hold the poster as proof. Actions speak louder than words.

I know that all happy endings start with hope all I was doing was saying that Rumple never said he can have a happy ending. He just said that happiness is possible and I wrote the actual quote. It is possible, but it’s not guaranteed.

QuoteBut why have him even mention that it was a possibility if they were already planning to kill Neal? They could have written anything for Rumple’s goodbye to Neal, but those are the words they chose – hope for happiness in the future. The point I made still stands, I never said that Rumple offered a guarantee, I said that they had him put that sentiment out there, and if they did that right before they kill Neal, that’s a cruel misdirect, and it’s something that I don’t expect they’d do to a character that is 100% of their own invention. They don’t have many of those on this show. Neal, Emma and Henry are Adam and Eddy’s babies, and I just can’t imagine them putting one of those characters in the position where they’re basically saying to them, “Well your life sucked in pretty much every way, and then you were finally given hope that you could get your happy ending after all, but PSYCH, YOU’RE DEAD INSTEAD, SUCK IT.” And that’s what it would feel like if they killed Neal off after what they had Rumple say to him.
February 1, 2014 at 1:07 am #242166motormouth12ParticipantI know it could be anyone of those 8 but i’m going to say its between Neal and Hook.
I hope its not any of the charmings or regina or belle. But if it is one of them i’ll be sad but i won’t quit watching.

I agree actions speak louder than words and that Hook’s theme will continue just as I believe everyone else’s character themes will too (and will be supported by the actions, dialogue and new direction the show goes in).

A possibility is not a sure thing though, so that could be the way to kind of move around it. He did not say you will get a chance at a happiness because that would be a certainty. They made it vague.
If they kill the character using the method I think they’re gonna do then it’s already gonna be cruel and I don’t think there’s gonna be an actual storyline reason to kill the character. All these characters have more stories to tell, that’s why I don’t buy the whole “storyline” stuff.
Of course they’re gonna say that and then in a year or two when the actor is away from Once they will reveal via interview just why exactly they left. This has happened many times in Hollywood, it takes time to find out the truth of why things happened the way they did.
