Who is August? Why can’t he be both Bae and Pinocchio?

I have heard and read many questions about the true identity of August. There are multiple spoilers out and about; however, I don’t know anything about them. So if this has already been discussed; then please disregard this theory.

Ok….So my husband (Cptcave) and I were talking. We have a theory about August. We do not think that August is Pinocchio OR Bae. Why can’t he be both????

Rumple is all the time saying that magic comes with a price. What if Rumple tries to do some magic that will keep Bae with him and alive as long as he (Rumple) is. Rumple comes up with the potion that transforms people into puppets (the one he gave Jimmney that turned Gepetto’s parents) and uses it on Bae….not really knowing the full consequences. The fairies then intervene and take Bae and intrust him now as Pinocchio to Gepetto. Hince the reason for Rumple’s hatred of fairies.

That would explain how Rumple’s son could be alive and so young when the curse was enacted. Gepetto probably tried another cabinet out on Pinocchio as a deal with Rumple to help Snow and James to save Emma. Gepetto asks for a way to get Emma out….Rumple says only if you make sure Pinochio/Bae is safe and sound. This would explain how August knows about FTL and is a true believer of all the stories because he lived there.

I really want August to be Bea but there have been so many hints for him being Pinocchio. I am still holding out hope he may be Bae because with OUAT there’s always an unexpected twist.

As such, I certainly would welcome if August turns out to be BOTH Bae and Pinocchio, but there are still parts that don’t make sense.

One thing I can’t figure out and rationalize is the age difference between Bae (who was 13 in Desparte souls) but then real boy Pinocchio in Pilot was 6 or 7. That would mean Bae/Pinocchio became younger while he was a puppet.

Also, when Rumple spell turns Gepetto’s parents is when Gepetto is a young boy, so where or what is Baelfire doing while Gepetto is growing up?

Perhaps Rumple tried to transport Bae in some magic wood (much like the wood used to transport baby Emma) but somehow it didn’t work or he just got stuck in the wood. Then Gepetto finds the wood, carves Pinocchio who inherits Bae’s soul when he is transformed into a real boy? Maybe a little far fetched? And I would still like Bae to really still be Bae (just grown up) and not transformed into Pinocchio.

The other problem is that I believe Bae is truly good, brave and noble. It is inherently in his nature to be loyal and truthful as August repeatedly mentions he is. But in the original story, Pinocchio went through a time when he DID LIE. It wasn’t until he gained a conscience that the Blue Fairy (in Disney movie) changed him into a real boy.

I had also thought about this but had a different theory about how he could be both. I thought that maybe Bae wanted to get away from Rumple after he became the Dark One and the Blue Fairy heard his wish and turned him into the puppet version of Pinocchio and gave him to Gepetto. This would explain why Rumple hates fairies. The way I would explain the age difference is that when the Blue Fairy changes Pinocchio back into a real boy she changes him based upon the size and appearance of the puppet, not based upon what Bae was like in his previous life. I think that although Pinocchio was originally Bae – he basically has become a new person completely, he was cared for as puppet by Gepetto and is therefore raised as a boy by Gepetto.

However, based upon the pictures for the Bae backstory that were just released it doesn't look like he is fearful or unhappy with Rumple as the Dark One so I don't think I am still going with this theory anymore.
