My theory is that he is Regina’s brother. Since it is confirmed that Cora is the miller’s daughter, I believe that this is the baby she and the king had that she was able to break her deal with. Since it was before Rumple, I think the whole Miller’s daughter story took place with the Dark One, instead of Rumpelstilskin. I think she won her first deal and got to marry the king, but later, say….the kingdom needing money, or something, she went back to the Dark One for another deal. She again put Bae on the line. But this time it was for magic, not gold or marriage. I think that Cora gave Bae to Rumple because he was HER brother too, to protect him from the Dark One and with her new magic powers, created the knife to be able to control him. Thus being able to get out of her second deal without losing her baby. Unfortunately, like Rumple says, All magic comes with a price. Cora’s price was evilness. She became so engrossed with power and stature that she forgot about Bae and/or told Rumple to tell the boy that his mother ran away. We are never told who his mother is.
If this is true(or some form of it anyway) That would effectively make Regina, Henry’s aunt. Bae, his father and Rumple, his grandfather. He may be sheilded from any real magic powers but it will be a struggle for him to fight off the evil tendencies that is in his family genes.[adrotate group="5"]May 31, 2012 at 2:04 am #148115faux paxParticipantThat’s an interesting theory but it sounds a little far fetched to me. But then again, no one (maybe not even the writers) no everything about every back story so it may have some truth.

The dark one didn’t always have that name…that was Rumple the MAN’s name before he even became the dark one. I think Cora made deals with Rumple like the story of the Miller’s daughter says. The other thing then would be that Bae was obviously his before he became the dark one. So you put those two together the theory is unlikely.

As for the miller’s daughter, i do think she gave up a child to Rumple, My theroy is that it was Jefferson as i said in this https://oncepodcast.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=1107. But yeah, If he’s not the dad the theroy about the landowner’s due would be more likely but given the time slot and network when the show airs, i don’t think they would touch that kind of metral.

The writers seemed to be replicating the middle ages during Rumbles stories but EQ and Snow are much later in time more like the 1700s in costumes and environment.
In the middle ages, the lord of the manor had the right to be the first with a serfs bride ( virgins) or the pick of any woman in the village or farms. It was the custom and many babies were born as bastards from that practice.
The Dukes/ Lords of the manor and rulers have right over life and death over the peasants. They often would kick a farmer off the fields turning them out whenever they wanted. It was much akin to slavery. There were more haneous practices. I think the story will evolve that Rumple’s wife was taken by the lord of the manor as was the custom and that is why Bae is considered a bastard… he probably born 9 months or less after their marriage. Maybe Rumples wife was angry the Rumple could not / would not protect her and that is why she bailed.

Wow! Great theory! I remember something similar happening in the movie “Braveheart.” The newlywed bride was taken by one of the wealthier men and raped on her wedding night. I wouldn’t be surprised if this happened to Rumpel’s wife. And like A_Desperate_Soul already stated, it would make sense for Rumpel’s story. His entire life has been filled with tragedy. This would just be one more unfortunate event to add to his list.
Yes, King Edward called it Prima Nocta in Braveheart. it was also a custom that actual happened.
