I thought of the world as more of a Gothic horror world, I like the idea of Transylvania or something similar. I mean if they’re going to stick with storybook characters, as they have been (whether they be myths, stories, fables, novels) it seems more like… Jack Skellington seems a little too… Silly? Modern? He’s also a movie character, as opposed to a book character.

In my head I don’e see it like the cartoon Halloweentown, i do see more of a Transylvania type setting. But with the black and white old horror movie setting, and all the talk about werewolves and vamps I thought about that movie and how all those kind of characters are halloween characters and this world would be that kind of world. Adding characters with names of Jack Skeleton and Sally, would be a fun nod to that movie. Jefferson’s hat reminded me of the doors in the trees that Jack Skeleton finds.October 29, 2012 at 5:41 pm #158516melliemdParticipantNightmare Before Christmas? No, it stemmed from Tim Burton’s mind… I just don’t think that movie characters really fit in, whether or not they are Disney. Doing a Disney incarnation -of- a storybook character, sure. But something that was purely made to be a movie and has no real connection to classic stories? Ehhh. Frankenstein, Dracula, Ichabod Crane, Jekyll and Hyde… Those are the characters we need to see in Gothic Horror world.
Remember that Frankenstein doesn’t have “magic” in his world. So a walking-talking skeleton or rag-doll would just be weird. The horrors of his world are malformed humans, diseased minds, uncontrolled transformations.

I don´t know if you watch vampire diaires, but in this show vampires are originally humans who were made to vampires by magic. So I like the idea, that his brother was human and became a vampire by accident of someones magic? And in this show vampire can die and get back to their vampire being by special things (like a magic heart maybe??)
But my mother has a crazy theory. In the first seconds she saw whale, she shouted: “He´s Max or Moritz! Look at his hair!”
They are brothers in a very popular but violent storybook for children. And I also think, his hair looks a lot like one of them
But I don´t agree with her, because I don´t know if any land knows this story except germany 😛October 29, 2012 at 11:12 pm #158559keieParticipantI think Whale’s brother is Humpty Dumpty, actually. You know, the guy who ‘couldn’t be put back together again’ by ‘all the kings horses and all the kings men’. I think Whale figured out a way to do it.

Thank you! Haha, my sister and I were talking about it this morning and wracking our brains for a FTCharacter who would possibly be messed up so much that he sort of looks like a jigsaw puzzle who would be put back together. Then while I was a work later on the nursery rhyme just popped into my head, and I was like HUMPTY DUMPTY!
October 29, 2012 at 11:45 pm #158564mujieParticipantI just came up with a theory. Well, barely. Speculation. An idea. I was thinking in horror movie terms and that people aren’t always who they think they are. If Doctor Whale being Frankenstein was too easy, what if it wasn’t? I can’t remember if Rumple called Whale victor in Storybrooke, but if he didn’t? What if Whale is not victor, but his brother? Whale is he monster. He killed his brother. They’re twins. Whale is tricking everyone.
