@TheGoldenKey Thank you sir! No particular preference as to who Whale is,just like solving puzzles.
@slurpeez108 Correct, the last line there was intended tongue-in-cheek, thus the 😮 & the “just sayin”, quote. Although, I’m not so sure that, that was what wasn’t intended by the writers,… already knowing who Dr.Whale was,… a little tongue-in-cheek from the writers ❓[adrotate group="5"]September 19, 2012 at 10:04 am #154079lilredParticipantDavid: Oh man, you don’t even know. We just finished episode 5, which is gonna knock your socks off. I’m back in a big way! You’ll learn who Dr. Whale is – I’m the only fairytale character who hasn’t been revealed yet, but I promise you, I’m not just a womanizing lech who occasionally heals people. I’m still a pussy-hound, but the magic is released so everyone is realizing who they are. We’re dealing with the magic in Stroybrooke first and the love stories will come later. But you learn what world I come from, who I am and it’s really cool. I think there was a poll of 10,000 people and six guessed who I am correctly. All is revealed in the Halloween episode.
Thought this was interesting, mainly because I thought Whale being a creeper was just part of the curse and that his character would really be an honorable guy (for the most part). Some people are reading into his ‘you learn what world I come from’ comment to mean he’s defiantly not from Enchanted Forest…

http://www.theinsider.com/movies/55507_David_Anders_Revenant_Interview_Once_Upon_A_Time_Season_2/index.htmlI just want to say I love this man even more with every “hint” that he releases about his Dr. Whale’s true identity. lol, I guess it’s safe to say that since his real self is a (self-censored term) he wasn’t honorable like I thought he might be.
September 19, 2012 at 2:08 pm #154095surayyaParticipantI’ll laugh until blue in the face if he turns out to be Puss in boots lol 😆
September 19, 2012 at 2:12 pm #154096midnight drearyParticipantI am so for this Puss in Boots theory. SO FOR!
September 19, 2012 at 2:36 pm #154098surayyaParticipantI just posted this in another thread as it really makes sense – all joking aside 😉
“Puss in Boots”, is a French literary fairy tale about a cat who uses trickery and deceit to gain power, wealth, and the hand of a princess in marriage for his penniless and low-born master.
“Puss in Boots” has provided inspiration for composers, choreographers, and other artists over the centuries. The cat appears in the third act pas de caractère of Tchaikovsky’s ballet The Sleeping Beauty, for example
& it gets better …
The original fairy tale opens with the third and youngest son of a miller receiving his inheritance — a cat. At first, the youngest son laments, as the eldest brother gains the mill, and the middle brother attains the mules. Now given this cat allows his miller master to gain the hand of a princess in marriage, it’s actually not not a bad fit & ties into the already established FTL story they have – esp if they have Cora marrying that miller care of Puss in Boots!
Then again I could just be reading WAYYYY too much into things – however for now, Im gonna fly my Whale is Puss flag 😆
September 19, 2012 at 3:04 pm #154102TheGoldenKeyParticipantI’d buy the Puss in Boots theory. He’s portrayed as a Casonova in Shrek though Shrek isn’t Disney. Man oh man, Frankie, Merlin, Peter Pan, The Big Bad Wolf, and now Puss in Boots. LOL! One thing is for sure, he didn’t come from the Enchanted Forest as he’s already stated as much in his recent interview.
Keeper of Pandora's Box & The Yellow Brick Road.
September 19, 2012 at 6:26 pm #154107nettsliderParticipantI think the Peter Pan theory is a good one. I dont know how much of a twist the writers will do for this story. I do see him as a little boy who did not grow up. I dont know how the name “whale” would conecct with it . I hope that he is but , you never know. Just some thoughts. Love the show and the podcast.
September 19, 2012 at 9:20 pm #154119lilredParticipantNow knowing his reveal episode is titled, ‘Once Upon A Tail’ – Puss in Boots could be it. Don’t know much about that character, but it seems possible. The BIG Bad Wolf could be interesting – but don’t see how ‘Whale’ came from that idea.
September 20, 2012 at 2:55 am #154134arielParticipantLets put all the facts we know down in one place. Whoever Dr. Whale is has to match up with EVERYTHING below.
1.) His name is Dr. Whale (note – this may not be as literal as it sounds. The name David Nolan has nothing to do with the name Charming, however Regina is latin for Queen, and Blanchard means white. So it’s safe to bet an…odd… name like Whale will mean something.)
2.) In Storybrooke, he’s a doctor. Again, this might not be literal, but healing must have something to do with his fairy tale counterpart. David Anders has even described Dr. Whale as a healer.
3.) In Storybrooke, he’s a total womanizer. Keep in mind though – he was under the curse. This could actually be an opposite quality of what he truly is. But in either case, Dr. Whale must have a story strongly connected to women in some way.
4.) He’s in a position of (somewhat) power in Storybrooke. If we use examples of other people in power, this means he was on Regina’s good side before the curse was enacted.
5.) The episode we believe will be his reveal episode is called “Once Upon a Tail.”
6.) David Anders knew who his fairy tale character was before he even signed on for the role – and it was a big reason why he took the part. One has to assume it’s a well known, epic character. NOTE – The OUAT creators did not obtain the rights to “Peter Pan” until just before they started writing season two which, for me, discredits the Dr. Whale = Peter Pan theory. They went into season one assuming they would never be able to do Peter Pan. Why would they pitch Anders a role they didn’t think they would legally be able to write?
7.) David Anders mentioned that we’ll find out “what world he’s from” implying that Dr. Whale might not be from the enchanted forest but from somewhere else (i.e. Wonderland, Oz, or Neverland)
8.) David Anders has said that very few fans are correct in their theories (in a recent discussion thread he read, or vote or something, he said only about six out of hundreds of fans got it right.) So it’s got to be a less common theory.
