I agree with hjbau. In the episode “Skin Deep” he calls himself a monster and “gold” is a play on his storybrook name and the fact that he turns straw into gold.
That makes more sense. I just thought “monster” could refer to Frankenstein (assuming Dr. Whale is he).

That may be right too, your guess is as good as everyone else’s
I’m all excited about the title of episode 5 The Doctor it gives more and more weight to the Frankenstein theory!

Could Whale be a greek god? They’ve already included Midas so they’re not avoiding greek mythology.
Maybe Hades, lord of the underworld?- As a doctor, his decisions could make the difference between life and death. He’d be a god therefore he would have “a god complex”. “Frames himself a victor in all conflicts”- death always wins- nobody can beat death.
All magic comes with a price!

He can’t be Peter Pan it’s too obvious… he has to be someone we’ve all heard of but not from the enchanted forest since it’s implied he’s from a world we maybe haven’t seen yet… I don’t he can be the big bad wolf or the wizard of Oz either since those would also be first guesses. I’m thinking his profession has something to do with his fairy tale character too. The Frankenstein idea is intriguing it’s definitely out of the box but falls in line with the reveal being on Halloween. Then again if we’re talking classic horror and womanizers we can also throw Count Dracula in the mix what with then pic of him with blood on his shirt? The cooler possibly holding donated blood? At this point it’s tough since we don’t have too much to go on yet I’m sure after we see him with his memories back we’ll have more clues to throw around.

The thing about the “obvious” is that when we expect the unexpected, they give us the obvious. It was all too obvious that AWB was Pino yet we all believed they would never be that obvious about something. Yet, from the get go, they gave us clues about it. When asked at Paleyfest “where is Pino” they replied “his the wooden Daily Mirror dispenser outside of Granny’s”. AWB was ALWAYS outside of Granny’s on his bike.
I still like my Frankenstein theory, especially if the writers choose to do the “unexpected” this time round. However, should they choose to go the “obvious” route, as they did with AWB/Pino, then I’d say he’s the “real” Big Bad Wolf.

If Jefferson’s curse was to always remember then certainly Peter Pan’s curse could be that he grew up. All the ladies loved him, Tinkerbell, Wendy, Tiger Lilly, but no one was ever allowed to touch him nor did he feel that way about the ladies.. Reversal of that would be the hound that he is. I’d still prefer to see Bae as Peter and Dr. Whale as Frankie, but not ruling out Whale as Big Bad Wolf or Peter.

The reason I mention the choices that are obvious is because of that one thing I read about how in a poll of 10000 something like 6 people guessed it right. So my thinking is in that poll the most obvious choices would be what’s most selected. So that’s why I’d eliminate them, first choices for his identity if what was said in the interview were true then most first choices would be off the table, Peter Pan, Wizard of Oz, Big Bad Wolf…
