I like what they’ve done with Robin’s costume, modern clothing, but still with a touch of the FTL in the accessories so he still looks like his character. Why can’t they do something like that for Hook, too.

but remember that nothing is ever done on this show by accident. I did some thinking about this, but for reasons I don’t understand, when the spoiler came out that one character is related to another, and thus relates two others, a mental leap came to mind which reminded me of an episode I took for granted last season. Everyone remembers Child of the Moon. This was a very low rated episode, and it looked like it was just randomly thrown in there, and I didn’t understand why they would throw something seemingly off subject right in the middle of a storyline so focused on Captain Hook. I think I have my answer. Over the weekend, I am going to post a new topic to provide a better explaination to my theory, but I believe that we may learn that Hook and Red are connected somehow. Related? Well we’ll see, but remember in Child of the Moon, Peter was tied to a tree much in the same way Hook was in Tallahassee. That didn’t occur to me before. Getting to my point though, my theory about Hook’s clothing is that it serves the same purpose as Red’s cape in some respect. If he takes it off, the result might be someone unpredictable.
Someone may ask me, if you’re on the right track, then why was he in a different costume in Good Form or a hospital gown later last season? I’ll explain that over the weekend, when I get a chance to go into more detail.
Is Hook a wolf like Red? I think it’s possible.

Interestingly, Larry also said that the below filmed together yesterday….. Not Emilie, and she did film – so did Bobby. I assume, then, that they filmed together. He’s already said (when I asked him) that he’s not allowed to talk about “that” when I asked if Bobby was there, but apparently he was because some fans met him. So I’ve spent the past 3 months feeling worried about the lack of info on Bobby/Rumple, but the fact that the season starts again this weekend and we STILL have NO idea what exactly is going on with him makes me really excited actually. With all of the things we’ve been able to spoil/get information on over the past seasons (Neal/Bae, Henry being kidnapped, Pan being Rumple’s father, Rumple stabbing Pan, etc.), the fact that they’ve been able to keep this so under-wraps just shows how important they think it is to do so, which means Rumple’s storyline is probably going to be really vital/awesome! Especially if people who are visiting set say they can’t say anything!

@Sarah_TN well, interesting idea and I look forward to reading it more fully. But I do think there is a very simple explanation: because Colin looks good in black leather. That’s really it. In the black leather and eyeliner he is 100x more marketable than he ever would be in normal clothing.

But I agree that he has been marketed as Hook in his signature black leather – and it will be a big deal when he is finally seen without out it (I mean in normal clothes – gah!). Even Colin has said that as soon as he puts the leather coat on he gets into character. But he has already been seen without it on the show – when he was found by Emma, Snow, and Mulan, and during all of Tallahassee. I think there have been some other times as well.

That’s definitely true, but I still think they could tweak his look to be more modern without losing the pirate-ness. Still have him in a black leather coat, but a shorter (maybe 3/4 length instead of the super long one), modern one. Modern black button up shirt with the top half of the buttons undone, same way he wears his pirate shirt. Black jeans. He can keep his same shoes and jewellery. Ta-da, modern twist on the pirate look that’s still totally marketable. Honestly, it’s just getting a bit ridiculous that he’s the ONLY person getting around SB in his full FTL costume on a daily basis.

I agree, but with A&E having the experience they have, and with their caliber, I just don’t think they’d do something so corny without a good reason.

Well I agree that it’s ridiculous but I don’t think it’s corny without a good reason. The reason is marketability. They could tweak the outfit as Phee suggested and it’d probably still work but less so because suddenly he’s not modern Hollywood’s take on a pirate. ABC wants to use Colin in his full Captain Hook ensemble as their poster child for the show. Take away the full on costume and put him in something more modern and you’ve lost a little bit of the sex appeal. A and E constantly say they’re not in charge of marketing but they’re not stupid either. They know the business–sex sells. And however much fans of the show (like us) may want him in something different because it’s a little obnoxious to have ONLY him in his FTL outfit all the time, the business side of all this will keep him in that outfit until the end of time, get as much money and use out of Colin as Captain Hook as they can.
